A few reasons why Rotorua
is a great place to visit
Natural Wonders
Rotorua is the Geothermal Capital of New Zealand and
is the only place in New Zealand that has shooting
geysers. Our geothermal parks are full of incredible
colours from bright yellow, lime green, cyan blue,
oranges and reds. And yes, we have mud pools too!
Some geothermal activity can be seen for free around
our city, like Kuirau Park, Sulphur Bay, the Wai-O-Tapu
Mud Pool or activity around Ohinemutu.
Stable weather conditions
Generally speaking, Rotorua experiences fairly stable
weather conditions. We rarely experience high winds
(like some cities in New Zealand). Rotorua and the
surrounding district enjoy a consistent temperate
climate with daytime temperatures in the mid-to-high
twenties in summer and low-to-mid teens in winter
(degrees C). It does not snow in Rotorua either, but ski
fields are just 2 hours drive away at Ruapehu (winter time).
Ease of parking
Compared to the bigger cities like Auckland or
Wellington, Rotorua has plenty of FREE, P30, P60 and
P120 car parks around its CBD. Sure we have some
coin operated meters in certain areas, but usually free
parking is just around the corner. Spend less time
driving around in circles looking for a park or going
into expensive car park buildings – finding a car park
in Rotorua is never too difficult.
