events by the Glencoe Chamber of Commerce,<br />

Glencoe Park District and Chicago<br />

Botanic Garden to ease your holiday<br />

stress.<br />

Snoopy Thanksgiving<br />

10-11:30 a.m. Nov. 17, Takiff Center,<br />

999 Green Bay Road, Glencoe.<br />

Watch the Thanksgiving special on<br />

the big screen, enjoy a re-creation of<br />

Snoopy’s most unusual Thanksgiving<br />

meal along with hands-on crafts and<br />

other fun family activities. Children<br />

must be accompanied by a parent or<br />

Light the Village Lights<br />

4 p.m. Nov. 23, intersection of Park<br />

and Vernon avenues, Downtown Glencoe.<br />

There will be carolers, an appearance<br />

by Santa riding in on a fire truck<br />

and a very brief ceremony when all the<br />

tree lights in the business district are<br />

suddenly magically turned on.<br />

Wonderland Express<br />

Nov. 23, 2017-Jan. 6, 2018, Chicago<br />

Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook<br />

Road, Glencoe. Visit the garden for<br />

Wonderland Express, an annual holiday<br />

extravaganza featuring model<br />

trains, magical and glittering indoor<br />

snow, and meticulously crafted Chicago<br />

landmarks in miniature. Plus, see<br />

intricate ice carvings and hear music<br />

from carolers. For more information,<br />

Small Business Saturday<br />

Nov. 24, Downtown Glencoe. This<br />

day will kick-off the holiday shopping<br />

season for local stores and businesses.<br />

Adding to the enjoyment on<br />

Small Business Saturday, the Horse<br />

and Carriage Rides will return to the<br />

downtown business district, generously<br />

sponsored by North Shore Community<br />

Bank.<br />

The annual Light the Village Lights event will take place at 4 p.m. Nov. 23 this year in<br />

downtown Glencoe.<br />

Winter Express<br />

Dec. 1, Glencoe. Bring your family<br />

for a festive holiday trolley ride.<br />

They’ll start at the Takiff Center and<br />

travel to Watts Center for seasonal<br />

crafts and surprises, including cookies<br />

and milk with the jolly ol’ elf himself,<br />

Santa Claus! Advance registration required<br />

by Nov. 28; registration will<br />

close when capacity is reached. Day of<br />

registration will not be accepted. Visit<br />

Saturdays of the Season<br />

Dec. 1, 8 and 15, Downtown Glencoe.<br />

Santa will make a return visit in<br />

the business district Dec. 1. The New<br />

Trier Swing Choir will troll the district<br />

from Dec. 8. The Salvation Army Youth<br />

Brass Band will be back at the northeast<br />

corner of Park and Vernon during the<br />

morning on all three Saturdays.<br />

Weekend Family Classes<br />

Together, adults and children can<br />

explore cool things about how plants<br />

connect to science, art, history, and<br />

culture at the Chicago Botanic Garden,<br />

1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe. Each<br />

program includes a variety of hands-on<br />

activities and projects, as well as opportunities<br />

to bring the Garden home.<br />

Programs this winter include: Joyful<br />

Gingerbread, Loco for Cocoa and<br />

Christmas Concert<br />

spirit with a Christmas Brass Concert,<br />

featuring festive holiday favorites by<br />

the Chicago Brass Band in Alsdorf Auditorium.<br />

Hanukkah Concert<br />

11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Dec. 9, Chicago<br />

Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Road,<br />

Glencoe. The clarinet swings, violin<br />

sings, voices rise, everyone is dancing!<br />

The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band will<br />

perform two festive one-hour concerts.<br />

Breakfast with Santa<br />

Dec. 15-16, Chicago Botanic Garden,<br />

1000 Lake Cook Road, Glencoe.<br />

Ticket price includes parking, a buffet<br />

meal, a visit with Santa and exclusive<br />

access to Wonderland Express.<br />

Winter Solstice: Light Up Green Bay Trail<br />

5 p.m. Dec. 21, Green Bay Trail,<br />

Glencoe. Celebrate the passing of the<br />

shortest day of the year with a Parade of<br />

Lights on the Trail. Decorate your family,<br />

dog, wagons, strollers and self with<br />

lights and things that glow. In the event<br />

of severe weather, the parade will be<br />

canceled. Event updates will be posted<br />

at gbtrail.org.
