Nov. 10 — Renowned
folk guitarist, singer and
songwriter John McCutcheon performs in
a Pasadena Folk Music Society show at 8
p.m. in Caltech’s Beckman Institute Auditorium
(not to be confused with the larger
Beckman Auditorium nearby). Tickets cost
$25, $5 for Caltech students and children
younger than 12.

Nov. 11 — The New York--based Baroque
ensemble Rebel performs works by Lully,
Campra, Handel, Corelli, Leclair, Fux and
Vivaldi at 3:30 p.m. at Beckman Auditorium.
Joining them are Baroque dancers Thomas
Baird and Paige Whitley-Bauguess. Tickets
cost $20 to $55.
Nov. 15 — In “National Geographic Live,”
wildlife photojournalist and documentarian
Charlie Hamilton James recounts the story
of his purchase of land next to Peru’s Manu
National Park, only to discover a cocaine
plantation and illegal logging on the acreage.
He also shows his photographic work
in Yellowstone National Park and beyond.
The talk starts at 8 p.m. at Beckman Auditorium.
Tickets cost $37, $10 for youth.
Nov. 28 — Lihong Wang, Bren Professor of
Medical Engineering and Electrical Engineering
at Caltech, discusses the world’s
deepest-penetration and fastest optical
cameras at 8 p.m. in Beckman Auditorium.

L.A. Chamber Orchestra Concert
in Glendale
Nov. 17 —The Los Angeles Chamber
Orchestra orchestral concert season
continues at the Alex Theatre with David
Danzmayr as guest conductor and Jennifer
Koh as violinist at 8 p.m. Danzmayr, music
director of Ohio’s ProMusica and chief
conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic
Orchestra in Croatia, is regarded as one of
the most talented European conductors of
his generation. The program includes Ligeti’s
Violin Concerto, Korngold’s “Straussiana”
and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral.”
The concert repeats at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at
UCLA’s Royce Hall. Ticket prices start at $28.

Descanso
Nov. 18 — Descanso
Gardens’ popular
Enchanted Forest of Light attraction opens
just in time for the holidays. The familyfriendly
light show illuminates a gentle
one-mile hike through Descanso, accented
by large-scale displays by professional
lighting artists, many of them interactive.
Lightwave Lake is installed at Descanso
Lake, and the popular Aqueous features a
flowing and glowing, interactive landscape
of meandering pathways. Hours are 5:30 to
10 p.m. daily (except Nov. 22 and Dec. 24
and 25) through Jan. 6. Tickets cost $28 to
$30 for visitors ages, 2 and above, and $23
to $25 for members; children under 2 are
admitted free.

Nov. 27 — The Piano
Spheres concert series
celebrates its 25thanniversary
season with an 8 p.m. concert
by renowned pianist Gloria Cheng, titled
“Garlands for Steven Stucky,” a tribute to
the late composer, who died in 2016. The
tribute concert features 32 works written by
other composers in his memory. Cheng is
joined by mezzo-soprano Peabody Southwell
and oboist Carolyn Hove. The concert
takes place at the Colburn School’s Zipper
Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Tickets cost
$35, $20 for students.
