Nov. 11 — The New York--based Baroque<br />

ensemble Rebel performs works by Lully,<br />

Baird and Paige Whitley-Bauguess. Tickets<br />

Nov. 15 — In “National Geographic Live,”<br />

wildlife photojournalist and documentarian<br />

Charlie Hamilton James recounts the story<br />

of his purchase of land next to Peru’s Manu<br />

National Park, only to discover a cocaine<br />

plantation and illegal logging on the acreage.<br />

He also shows his photographic work<br />

in Yellowstone National Park and beyond.<br />

The talk starts at 8 p.m. at Beckman Auditorium.<br />

Medical Engineering and Electrical Engineering<br />

at Caltech, discusses the world’s<br />

deepest-penetration and fastest optical<br />

Orchestra orchestral concert season<br />

Danzmayr as guest conductor and Jennifer<br />

Koh as violinist at 8 p.m. Danzmayr, music<br />

director of Ohio’s ProMusica and chief<br />

conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic<br />

Orchestra in Croatia, is regarded as one of<br />

the most talented European conductors of<br />

his generation. The program includes Ligeti’s<br />

Violin Concerto, Korngold’s “Straussiana”<br />

and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, “Pastoral.”<br />

The concert repeats at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 at<br />

UCLA’s Royce Hall. Ticket prices start at $28.<br />

Gardens’ popular<br />

Enchanted Forest of Light attraction opens<br />

just in time for the holidays. The familyfriendly<br />

light show illuminates a gentle<br />

one-mile hike through Descanso, accented<br />

by large-scale displays by professional<br />

lighting artists, many of them interactive.<br />

Lightwave Lake is installed at Descanso<br />

Lake, and the popular Aqueous features a<br />

flowing and glowing, interactive landscape<br />

of meandering pathways. Hours are 5:30 to<br />

10 p.m. daily (except Nov. 22 and Dec. 24<br />

and 25) through Jan. 6. Tickets cost $28 to<br />

$30 for visitors ages, 2 and above, and $23<br />

to $25 for members; children under 2 are<br />

admitted free.<br />

Nov. 27 — The Piano<br />

Spheres concert series<br />

celebrates its 25thanniversary<br />

season with an 8 p.m. concert<br />

by renowned pianist Gloria Cheng, titled<br />

“Garlands for Steven Stucky,” a tribute to<br />

the late composer, who died in 2016. The<br />

tribute concert features 32 works written by<br />

other composers in his memory. Cheng is<br />

joined by mezzo-soprano Peabody Southwell<br />

and oboist Carolyn Hove. The concert<br />

takes place at the Colburn School’s Zipper<br />

Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Tickets cost<br />

$35, $20 for students.<br />
