Alex, welcomed their first child into<br />
their family. Emma Hanil Shin was<br />
born on August 3, <strong>2018</strong>.<br />
Zyndee (Salazar) Johnson, ’09,<br />
and husband, Ernest, welcomed a<br />
baby girl into their growing family on<br />
September 7, <strong>2018</strong>. Zana Milan was 7<br />
lbs. 11 oz. at birth and is much loved<br />
by big brother, Edison, as well as the<br />
rest of the family.<br />
Matthew Durante, ’10, is enrolled<br />
in the Adventist Theological Seminary<br />
at Andrews University. Prior to graduate<br />
school, Matt served as associate<br />
pastor at the Bowman Hills Adventist<br />
Church in Cleveland, Tn.<br />
Joshua McKinney and Julie<br />
(Kretschmar) McKinney, ’10,<br />
have recently relocated to Salem, Or.<br />
where Joshua accepted a position as<br />
a certification engineer for Garmin<br />
International and Julie is doing some<br />
travel nursing in Eugene, Or., as well<br />
as continuing work on her nurse practitioner<br />
degree.<br />
Cody Paige, ’11, recently began<br />
the master of divinity program at the<br />
Adventist Theological Seminary at<br />
Andrews University. Prior to graduate<br />
school, Cody served as associate pastor<br />
of the Belvedere Adventist Church in<br />
Atlanta, Ga.<br />
Melissa (O’Connell) Smith, ’11,<br />
and her husband, Jake, are excited<br />
about their first child, a baby girl, who<br />
is due to arrive in October. Melissa<br />
is a charge nurse at Regency Park<br />
in Dalton, Ga. and her husband is a<br />
designer for Royal Thai, a local rug<br />
company.<br />
Shelly (Payne) Maskelony, ’12,<br />
is teaching ELA (English Language<br />
Arts) to 6 th graders at Littlefield Middle<br />
School in Lumberton, N.Car. Shelly is<br />
also actively involved in the churches<br />
where her husband, Rich, serves as<br />
pastor.<br />
Courtney Buckhanon, ’13, recently<br />
competed in the Miss Black<br />
USA pageant as Miss Black Georgia.<br />
Through her work with the Miss<br />
Black USA pageant system, Courtney<br />
has been able to promote many of her<br />
favorite causes, such as entrepreneurship<br />
for women.<br />
Brianna (Paradis) Lowery, ’13,<br />
was married to Jonathan Lowery on<br />
September 2, <strong>2018</strong> at Walnut Hill<br />
Farm in Dalton, Ga. “It was a beautiful<br />
day, thanks to Zach and Riley<br />
McDonald (son of Andy McDonald,<br />
’73) of Zach and Riley Designs.”<br />
Bree is working for a startup media<br />
company as Director of Operations.<br />
Jonathan is finishing up his Executive<br />
Director in Training program with<br />
MorningPointe Senior Living.<br />
Christopher Pubillones, ’13,<br />
is working for Northrop Grumman<br />
Innovation Systems as a software engineer<br />
in the Space Systems Group. He<br />
designs and builds software applications<br />
that aid spacecraft teams in planning<br />
their missions and in operating<br />
their spacecraft once in orbit.<br />
Steven Pubillones, ’13, graduated<br />
from Georgia Tech in May <strong>2018</strong> with<br />
a degree in biomedical engineering<br />
and is now a rehabilitation engineer<br />
with the Alabama Dept. of Rehabilitation<br />
Services. His work involves<br />
meeting with individuals at their<br />
home, job site, or school and either<br />
introducing them to technology or<br />
fabricating technology that will help<br />
improve their lives. His mission is to<br />
help children and adults with disabilities<br />
achieve their fullest potential.<br />
Kenesha Ryce, ’13, recently<br />
authored a children’s book entitled,<br />
Vio’s Violin. This book, offered on<br />
Amazon.com and other sources, “is<br />
much more than a fun story-it is also<br />
full of the technical details that parents<br />
and teachers want and appreciate. So<br />
hop inside Vio’s Violin to visit the old<br />
man, the Peg family, and the people of<br />
Tail Town and learn more about the<br />
wonderful world of music.”<br />
Jessica Ahn, ’14, is serving with<br />
the AMOR Project in Peru as a Bible<br />
worker and medical assistant.<br />
Chelsea Dancek, ’14, will be<br />
serving this year as a medical assistant<br />
at the Palau Adventist Wellness Center,<br />
on the island of Palau.<br />
Jamil and Vanessa (Hernandez)<br />
Hairston, both ’14, are graduate<br />
students at the Adventist Theological<br />
Seminary at Andrews University<br />
pursing the masters of divinity degree.<br />
Vanessa is working for Griggs University<br />
and International Academy teaching<br />
6 th grade social studies and Jamil is<br />
teaching gymnastics.<br />
Rebekah Fink, ’16, is serving this<br />
year as a student missionary in Pucallpa,<br />
Ucauali, Peru.<br />
Katie (DeArk) Kent, ’16, was married<br />
to David Kent on June 8, <strong>2018</strong><br />
in a Bay City, Mi. wedding. They are<br />
living in Berrien Springs, Mi. where<br />
Mark is studying electrical engineering<br />
and Katie is in the nutrition and<br />
dietetics program.<br />
Matthew Korp, ’16, is serving as a<br />
student missionary this year, working<br />
for the Hawaii conference as a pastor.<br />
Taylor (Reid) Nesmith, ’16,<br />
married Joshua Nesmith on September<br />
1, <strong>2018</strong>. The couple live in<br />
Nashua, N. H.<br />
