Held at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, the Gala featured a cocktail reception, silent auction, video program, award presentation, and paddle raise. The event attracted nearly 225 guests and raised a record-breaking $160,000. The evening’s program began with remarks from immediate past chair, Art Muir. He spoke about the many ways the North Shore Senior Center serves the community, including case management services, the House of Welcome Adult Day Services, fitness center, lifelong learning classes, and more. Current board chair Stuart Smith had the honor of presenting the Janet Burgoon Philanthropic Excellence Awards. First, he presented the Outstanding Philanthropist Award to Melvoin. Her first memories of the Center date back to her childhood when her father was a member, her mother was a volunteer, and eventually her brother Millard Grauer served on the Board of Trustees. After earning a degree in social work, Melvoin joined the Center’s staff as a full-time case manager. In this role, Melvoin noticed that many of her clients needed assistance easing the cost of medications, eyeglasses and other one-time expenses. Keane, deputy chief of the Deerfield Police Department. According to Keane, the Kenosha Police Department alerted towns along Route 41 that it was tracking a stolen vehicle that was reportedly in the area. After the vehicle entered Highland Park, an officer saw it turn onto Lake Cook and proceed Westbound, according to Keane. Per Keane, the vehicle then turned down a street near P.F. Chang’s, turned and proceeded eastbound on Lake Cook. The vehicle next attempted to go between two cars, which were stopped at the traffic light, and made contact with both, resulting in a traffic accident, per Keane. With the assistance of the Northbrook and Highland Park Police Departments, the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, and other local agencies, five individuals are now in custody. “They are an assortment of adults and juveniles,” Keane told The Northbrook Tower. “No one has been officially charged yet. We’re still investigating.” Reporting by Northbrook Tower staff. Full story at NorthbrookTower.com. “Definitely worth getting a home inspection, especially with an older home.
