Illinois State Senate District 29 Morrison defeats Davie in ‘really hard’ race lacking ‘civility’ Erin Yarnall, Editor Incumbent Julie A. Morrison (D- Deerfield) celebrated another successful defense of her Senate seat in the state’s 29th Senate District over Barrett Davie (R-Lake Forest) at the Highland Park Country Club. Morrison, 62, won 63.1 percent of the vote to Davie’s 36.9 percent, with 62 of 68 precincts reported, a difference of 20,762 votes. The district covers Highland Park, Highwood, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Buffalo Grove and Deerfield in Lake County, and Arlington Heights, Glencoe, Prospect Heights and Northbrook in Cook County. The race marked the first meeting of Morrison and Davie. Morrison has Illinois House of Representatives District 58 Morgan wins over Lesser by landslide Alyssa Groh Contributing Editor Rick Lesser (R-Lake Bluff) could not catch up to Bob Morgan (D-Deerfield) in the Illinois House of Representatives District 58 race after entering late when Cindy Masover left the race for personal reasons. Scott Drury has held the Illinois House of Representatives District 58 seat since 2013. Lesser, 63, is a small business owner and estate planning attorney. He was a Lake Bluff Village Board of Trustee member from 2003-2011. Morgan, 38, is an attorney for the law firm Much Shelist, and previously worked for the State of Illinois where he served as the lead attorney for the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. He also served as senator in the 29th Legislative District since 2013. She previously served as the West Deerfield Township Supervisor for 15 years. Davie, 44, a first-time candidate, co-founded a sports marketing company InStadium, and served as its CEO until 2008. He now serves as the partner and co-founder of InFlow Partners, a business accelerator. He has also previously served as the chairman of Bernie’s Book Bank in Lake Bluff. “It was a really hard race, you guys” Morrison said to a crowded room at the Highland Park Country Club. “There was a lot of nastiness, there was not a lot of civility. We served as director of the Illinois Medical Cannabis Program. The program has helped more than 35,000 residents struggling with debilitating medical conditions like cancer and PTSD. “I was unable to overcome the problem the republican brand has in this District,” Lesser said during a watch party at Chief’s Pub in Lake Forest. Lesser did not believe his late entry impacted the results. He received 75.26 percent of the vote, with 11,766 votes, compared to Zeidman’s 24.74 percent with 3,867 votes. Frank said that he is “happy” with the work that he has accomplished in his first term, including being vocal about sustainability issues, and attempting to make the county more sustainable.
