New Trier Township Food Pantry seeks support on Giving Tuesday Content Submitted Heros From Page 9 hiring a diverse workforce, would require some time, but, ideas like maintaining regular conversations between our group and families with students of color, are happening right now. We are excited to keep the conversation going across town,” Hatchett said. One step to opening the doors to dialogue occurred on Sept. 27 when Heros invited the public to the Baha’i Temple Welcome Center, to view the film, “The Long Shadow,” a documentary created by privileged daughters of Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving, takes place on Nov. 27. In its seventh year, this event marks the beginning of the holiday giving season, with intense focus on social media and community collaboration. “Although the economic times have improved, many of our elderly and disabled neighbors continue to struggle with food insecurity,” said Alan Goldberg, supervisor of New Trier Township. “Usage of our food pantry is on the rise and we hope community members will include our pantry in their holiday giving.” The New Trier Township Food Pantry has served the North Shore since 1965. I just want the community I live in to be free of prejudice, to be culturally diverse. I don’t want to walk around feeling divided and I hope that by opening the door to dialogue, we can begin to make changes and learn from one another. We all have a unique perspective to share and can learn from one another if we listen and stay open to exploring some of the tough topics.” Hatchett himself, said he was floored when the Sept. 27 showing was sold out, and equally floored by the conversations that ensued.
