Migrating through kindergarten
Greeley students
celebrate end of
monarch lesson
with special parade
The Kindergarten Butterfly
Migration is a culmination
of District 36
students’ annual study of
the life cycle of monarchs.
At Greeley, students
sang songs while they
“migrated” through their
school and neighborhood
wearing their beautiful
hand-painted wings.
The Butterfly Migration
event has been a
Winnetka Public Schools
tradition for more than 30
years.
District 36 awarded for
outstanding financial
reporting
The Association of
School Business Officials
International awarded The
Winnetka Public Schools
District 36 with the Certificate
of Excellence in
Financial Reporting.
ASBO International’s
certificate recognizes districts
that have met the
program’s high standards
for financial reporting and
accountability. The school
district earned the Certificate
of Excellence for its
Comprehensive Annual Financial
Report (CAFR) for
the fiscal year ended 2017.
“The [certificate’s] mission
is to promote and
recognize excellence in financial
reporting, specifically
through a district’s
CAFR,” ASBO International
Executive Director
John Musso says. “The
CAFR informs parents and
other stakeholders about
the financial and economic
state of the district, making
it an important communications
tool for building
trust and engaging with the
school community.”
By participating in the
certificate program, school
districts demonstrate their
commitment to financial
transparency. Applicants
submit their CAFR for review
by a team of professional
auditors, who provide
feedback to improve future
documents. If the CAFR
meets the requirements of
the program, the document
may receive the Certificate
of Excellence. A district’s
participation in the COE
program can facilitate bond
rating and continuing bond
disclosure processes.
among top in country on
ACT exam
New Trier High School
recorded its highest ACT
composite score in school
history, 28.0, once again
ranking New Trier among
the highest-performing
schools in the country on
the college entrance exam.
New Trier provided a
school-day ACT exam to
the entire Class of 2018
in addition to the state’s
SAT exam. The State of Illinois
recently switched its
required high school test
from the ACT to the SAT.
The ACT is a college
entrance exam that tests
for academic achievement
in English, math, reading,
science, and an optional
writing portion, with
scores of 1-36 in each category.
New Trier students
performed exceptionally
well in all four areas,
achieving an average score
of 28.7 in English, 27.3 in
mathematics, 28.4 in reading,
and 27.0 in science.
New Trier students have
continued to outperform
their peers across the nation,
showing high achievement
across all course
levels. The Class of 2016
and 2017 both recorded
