A little embarrassed for my delay in taking them down, I rushed outside, unplugged my ghost lights, ripped down my fake cobwebs and took out the gravestones from the lawn. The previous weekend was rainy so I hadn’t had a chance to get outside and now everything was dusted with snow. ... What? Unprepared for the switch in seasons, I was a little shocked at the precipitation and the bitter cold days that followed; however, it forced me to switch my mindset to the upcoming holidays. In Northfield and Winnetka, the holiday events are quickly approaching. I’ve jotted them down on my calendar, excited to see so many fun things coming up so soon! We also printed our annual Holiday Guide last week. I hope you had a chance to take a look at it; the guide was inserted in the middle of this paper. If for some reason you missed the roundup of holiday events, stay updated with our community calendar on Page 2. This season, I’m going to do my best to preview some of the larger events and also have recaps published in the paper. I’m always looking for unique stories, though. I still remember the deckedout Christmas basement I once visited in Winnetka, and even the amazing holiday displays throughout town each year. Perkaus Jr. ‘54 Family with the Lord Award for Distinguished Service in the Cause of Youth!” @LoyolaAcademy posted on Nov. 8 Follow The Winnetka Current: @winnetkacurrent THE NORTHBROOK TOWER Five subjects in stolen vehicle attempt to elude police near Northbrook- Deerfield border The Deerfield Police Department has five subjects in custody after a vehicle, believed to be stolen, crashed into two other vehicles on Lake Cook Road near the Northbrook-Deerfield border, according to Thomas E. Keane, deputy chief of the Deerfield Police Department. According to Keane, the Kenosha Police Department alerted towns along Route 41 that it was tracking a stolen vehicle that was reportedly in the area. The vehicle made its way into Highland Park when an officer saw it turn onto Lake Cook and proceed Westbound, according to Keane. Per Keane, the vehicle then turned down a street near P.F. Chang’s, turned around and proceeded eastbound on Lake Cook. The vehicle next attempted to go between two cars, which were stopped at the traffic light, and made contact with both, resulting in a traffic accident that disabled the vehicle, per Keane. Shortly after, a Deerfield officer pulled up to the scene and saw the subjects from the stolen vehicle attempt to flee the scene. With the assistance of the Northbrook and Highland Park Police Departments, the Cook County Sheriff’s Department, and other local agencies, five individuals are now in custody. “They are an assortment of adults and juveniles,” Keane told The Northbrook Tower. “No one has been officially charged yet. We’re still investigating and working with Kenosha Police Department to try and determine what we have here.” Reporting by Northbrook Tower staff.
