World Shakespeare <strong>Festival</strong><br />

The World Shakespeare <strong>Festival</strong> is a celebration of Shakespeare as<br />

the world’s playwright. Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company<br />

<strong>in</strong> an unprecedented collaboration with lead<strong>in</strong>g UK and <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

arts organisations, it is a cornerstone of the London 2012 <strong>Festival</strong>,<br />

the culm<strong>in</strong>ation of the Cultural Olympiad.<br />

The Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh <strong>International</strong> <strong>Festival</strong> is a proud partner of the World<br />

Shakespeare <strong>Festival</strong>, present<strong>in</strong>g three excit<strong>in</strong>g and contrast<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Shakespeare productions: TR Warszawa’s vast multimedia 2008:<br />

Macbeth; a new production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by<br />

acclaimed Russian director Dmitry Krymov; and an adaptation of<br />

The Rape of Lucrece featur<strong>in</strong>g the hugely charismatic actor and s<strong>in</strong>ger<br />

The Cultural Olympiad and<br />

London 2012 <strong>Festival</strong><br />

The London 2012 Cultural Olympiad is the largest cultural celebration <strong>in</strong><br />

the history of the modern Olympic and Paralympic movements. Spread<br />

over four years, it is designed to give everyone <strong>in</strong> the UK a chance to<br />

be part of London 2012 and <strong>in</strong>spire creativity across all forms of culture,<br />

especially among young people.<br />

The culm<strong>in</strong>ation of the the Cultural Cultural Olympiad is the London 2012 <strong>Festival</strong>,<br />

br<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g lead<strong>in</strong>g lead<strong>in</strong>g artists artists from from all over the world together from 21 June<br />

2012 <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> this this UK-wide festival – a chance chance for everyone to to celebrate<br />

London 2012 through dance, music, music, theatre, theatre, the visual arts, fi lm and<br />

digital <strong>in</strong>novation.<br />

Pr<strong>in</strong>cipal funders of the Cultural Olympiad and London 2012 2012 <strong>Festival</strong><br />

are Arts Council England, Legacy Trust UK UK and the Olympic Lottery<br />

Distributor. The British Council Council will support the <strong>in</strong>ternational development<br />

of London 2012 Cultural Olympiad projects. BP and BT are Premier<br />

of Creative Scotland provides the perfect showcase for this diverse<br />

Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh <strong>International</strong> Culture Summit<br />

Culture M<strong>in</strong>isters from around the world will gather <strong>in</strong> the world’s <strong>Festival</strong><br />

City <strong>in</strong> August to debate the power and profi le of culture <strong>in</strong> forg<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

foster<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>ternational relationships.<br />

The fi rst ever Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh <strong>International</strong> Culture Summit will be hosted <strong>in</strong><br />

the magnifi cent Scottish Parliament build<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh on 13 and<br />

14 August, after the Clos<strong>in</strong>g Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games<br />

<strong>in</strong> London and <strong>in</strong> the midst of the unrivalled explosion of cultural energy<br />

at Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh’s <strong>Festival</strong>s.<br />

The Summit is a collaboration between the Scottish Government,<br />

the UK Government, the British Council and the Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh <strong>International</strong><br />

<strong>Festival</strong>. It br<strong>in</strong>gs together Culture M<strong>in</strong>isters with prom<strong>in</strong>ent artists,<br />

th<strong>in</strong>kers and others <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g and implement<strong>in</strong>g<br />

cultural policy.<br />
