Dr. Marshall and I presented the Racial <strong>Equity</strong> Policy to one of<br />
the largest breakout sessions at the conference. The audience<br />
was energized and stimulated by the topic and the bold steps<br />
Jefferson County Public Schools have taken to ensure equity<br />
for African-American students. Many participants indicated<br />
that they were facing some of the same challenges as JCPS:<br />
low expectations of students, opportunity gap, digital divide,<br />
high concentration of African-American students in Special<br />
Education and alternative schools, and high suspensions.<br />
