Regina Dominican
players stepped into action
after North Shore Country
Day scored the first basket
in the teams’ nonconference
game Saturday, Dec.
8, in Wilmette.
The Panthers rattled off
the next 10 points, holding
North Shore without
a field goal for the final 6
minutes, 4 seconds of the
first quarter and the first
2:27 of the second quarter.
“They were doing a
good disciplined job of
putting pressure on our
players on the ball,” North
Shore coach Bruce Blair
said. “It’s good education
for us that we need to
learn how to play through
that.
“It was a good experience
for some of our players
who are kind of green.
The good thing is we
came within six points of
a good team in their home
gym.”
Despite the big lead,
Regina would hold off
North Shore 41-35 for the
nonconference win.
“This type of game
gives us encouragement,”
Regina’s Laura Strenk
said.
Strenk led the charge
for the fast start, scoring
the Panthers’ first 16
points, 16 of their 18 firsthalf
points. The sophomore
has already stepped into
a leading role, something
she embraces.
“I do have confidence
with the ball in my hands,
but my teammates open
up the court for me and
the coaches make plans
around that so I can get
shots up,” she said.
Even with the slow
start, North Shore was
able to make it a fivepoint
game at the half,
cutting the Panthers’ lead
to 18-13. However, a 10-1
run to start the third quarter
gave Regina all the
