Ashington CFC Juniors - Chairman’s Reflection
As another year draws to a close, it’s good to reflect on 2018 as a whole.
I’m sure those involved with Ashington CFC Juniors will agree it’s been
quite a successful year both on and off the pitch, a real credit to the effort
of all our members, not just the managers, coaches and players.
As always in football it’s good to see success on the pitch, starting with
David Hancock and our now U15’s Eagles who won the 2017/18 Under
14 NEYDL Championship, winning 21 out of 24 games. The Eagles
scored an incredible 129 goals and conceded just 35, going unbeaten in
the league from October 14 th right the way through to the end of the season.
Gary Bell also enjoyed a successful
2017/18 season with his then under
16 Saturday and Sunday teams.
Firstly, his Saturday team who finished
the season with a phenomenal
100% record, winning 19 out of 19
games! The lads managed to score
129 goals, conceding just 15 goals in
the process, as they stormed the
Gateshead Apollo League. Gary’s Sunday team saw a replay of the previous
season’s NEYDL Cup final, this time the other side of a 2-1 score
line to be crowned champions – two fantastic acrobatic efforts winning
them the game.
One of the highlights in 2018 as a club must
be securing an evening with renowned
coach Pete Sturgess, bringing his Foundation
Phase DNA Roadshow to Woodhorn
Lane in October. To have hosted the event
ahead of other local clubs who expressed
interest was a proud moment for the club,
giving us the opportunity to show off what
fantastic facilities Ashington CFC has to offer.
The evening was a great success and attended by around 150
coaches. As a club we were really able to set the standard for future
events, hopefully brining more nights like these to Woodhorn Lane in future.
