From the horses mouth - A Northern League roundup
The weather played havoc with the fixture list last
weekend as the majority of games ended up postponed.
7 games did get the go-ahead and probably the most
entertaining game, despite the atrocious conditions,
was the Ryhope derby.
Sunderland RCA welcomed neighbours Ryhope CW
and the sides didn’t let the conditions hinder the entertainment
for 72 in attendance that braved the elements.
RCA found themselves 2-1 by the 8th minute after a frantic start. Nathan
O’Neill found the net in the first minute for RCA but that lead only lasted until
the 7th minute when Ryhope CW’s Jack Devlin equalised. But straight from
the kick off Kyle Davis had put RCA back in front. Devlin and Davis again
traded goals within a minute of each other in the 35th and 36th minutes to se
RCA lead 3-2 at half time. Ryhope CW equalised for the 3rd time in the 51st
minute through Michael Rae but RCA had the final say when O’Neill grabbed
his 2nd in the 57th minute to give RCA the win with a 4-3 score line.
In another local derby North Shields made the short trip to Whitley Bay and
enjoyed their afternoon coming away with a 3-0 win in front of a brilliant
crowd of 417. North Shields goals coming through Sean McRoberts 51st minute
opener and two late strikes from Gary Day in the 85th and 90th minutes.
The only other division one game to be played last Saturday was a 0-0 stalemate
As Guisborough Town will have been happier with that score than
hosts Hebburn Town.
In division two four games survived. Billingham Town beat Washington 5-3
on Teesside as Ashley Lavan found the net four times for the home side.
Northallerton Town also had their own hat trick hero as Aaron Ramsbottom
score all 3 goals for then home side in a 3-2 win over Bedlington Terriers.

Glen Hargrave scored two to put the visiting Jarrow 2-0 ahead at Thornaby.
Kurtis Howes scored what would prove to only be a consolation goal for the
home side in the 60th minute.
In the league cup the previous midweek Newcastle Benfield progressed to
the next round as they defeated division two’s West Allotment Celtic 3-1 at
Druid Park.
A Ross McNab own goal was enough to see Stockton Town through as they
won at Sunderland RCA while Consett beat Bishop Auckland 4-2 Ross Wilkinson
scoring two for the home side with Bishops Michael Hoganson also
getting a brace.
Newton Aycliffe won 1-0 at home to Guisborough Town with Shaun Hudson’s
50th minute goal separating the side. Each side had a player sent off after
that to see them both finish the game with 10 men.
