The burglar was fairly quick but not quick enough to avoid the eyes of his pursuer who was able to give police a good description of him. The boys and girls in blue did the rest. The catch, and the break-in itself, won’t go down as one of the majors in the annals of crime in the district – but catching the young fellow probably nipped more nuisance offending and petty crime in the bud. And that causes most people hit by that sort of offending grief. But lots of inconvenience for the convenience store in Lincoln (see page 1). You can see the difference, it was really nice and neat,” she said. The manager said the owner of the store was notified about the break-in by a security alarm, Andy Williamson but by the time he got to there the offenders were gone. It’s not the first time the dairy has been targeted for cigarettes. The manager said the store was broken into about 18 months ago and cigarettes were stolen. However, she said there was more damage this time because the offenders had to get through the safety bars. She said it will take one to two months to fix the damage. Senior Constable Andy Williamson said police recovered the vehicle at Birchs Rd in Prebbleton. It was stolen from Lincoln. Springfield chief fire officer Grant Williams said the male occupant of the Mazda RX-8 got out of the vehicle as soon as it started smoking. Mr Williams was not sure what caused the blaze. BUS TRIAL SUBMISSIONS Environment Canterbury has received almost 400 submissions on a proposal to trial two new bus services in Selwyn. The trial would include two weekday bus services – one between Leeston and Christchurch and the other between Darfield and Christchurch. NEW AMBULANCE Selwyn Times reported last month that five Lions clubs helped raise $180,000 for the new Selwyn St John ambulance. This was incorrect. There were in fact six Lions clubs – the Ellesmere, Malvern, Rolleston and Districts, Halswell, Christchurch Chinese and Selwyn.
