Envision an Event free of Single-Use Plastic. It is pleasing to observe what is happening in our South Pacific, especially the development of eco-friendly tourism. The Single-Use Plastic Free Initiative was born in a small town in the Costa Ballena and is now in full development. The incentive was taken from here to the Environment Summit 2018 in Nairobi (Kenya), the perfect contribution since the UN was celebrating the Year of Clean Oceans. Other nations are joining the action to eliminate single-use plastics, and the tourism sector has been embraced this proposal in a special way.

Pajaritos enojados<br />

En una película de pajaritos enojados en <strong>Costa</strong> <strong>Rica</strong> el protagonista principal sería<br />
el llamativo Barbudo cabecirrojo (Eubucco boucieri). Esta pequeña ave con solo<br />
15 cms provoca sentimientos encontrados, ya que su brillante cabeza escarlata<br />
llama la atención, asemej<strong>and</strong>o a una cara humana redonda y roja de enfado.<br />
Solemos encontrar a estas aves, curiosamente emparentadas con los tucanes, en elevaciones<br />
superiores a los 900 msnm, aunque a veces descienden hasta los 750 entre<br />
octubre y febrero, por lo que casi cada año recibimos su visita en nuestro Corredor<br />
Biológico Alex<strong>and</strong>er Skutch.<br />
Las aves no tienen expresión facial, pero sí podemos observar sus necesidades en los<br />
movimientos de sus ojos y su pico. Al inicio de la época de lluvias podemos ver jóvenes<br />
pichones abriendo el pico para pedir comida a sus progenitores. También los colores<br />
en las plumas inspiran sentimientos. Con sus máscaras faciales, los momotos (Momotus<br />
lessonii), como el mielero verde (Chlorophanes spiza) y el mielero azul y negro (Dacnis<br />
vetusta) parecen auténticos b<strong>and</strong>idos.<br />
Otras aves con tonos suaves, como las viuditas tienen un aspecto más afable y social,<br />
lleg<strong>and</strong>o siempre emparejadas parlote<strong>and</strong>o. Son aves monógamas que tienen la misma<br />
pareja toda su vida.<br />
También hay aves que a primera vista inspiran temor por su rareza. Es el caso de<br />
los nictibios o pájaros estaca. Estas son aves nocturnas que se alimentan de insectos<br />
y ululan con un lamento Uuuuuuuuh- uh-uh-huu… que asemeja un triste llanto. Sin<br />
embargo son aves inofensivas, que tratan de pasar desapercibidas con su plumaje de<br />
camuflaje de palo, para poder descansar durante el día sin riesgo de ser depredadas.<br />
Cada especie puede aparentar ser, o tener un temperamento, que puede estar relacionado<br />
con su comportamiento. Pueden inspirar al ser humano a reflexionar sobre<br />
emociones propias de nuestra humana naturaleza. ■<br />
