TWT on-the-spot PHOTO Local primary school future leaders recognised SOME of our best and brightest future leaders from primary schools across TWT Territory have been recognised in the 6th Annual Primary Schools Leadership Awards. Hosted by the Rotary Club of Eastwood-Gladesville at Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club, more than 220 guests attended the ceremony and dinner. Certificates were presented to 32 students in Year 6 across 16 local primary schools, who were recognised as future leaders by community leaders from the political sphere and Rotary. The students also received movie passes, donated by Event Cinemas Top Ryde City and two bags of goodies. “It would not be a have been a Rotary event without a raffle and many local businesses supported it with the donation of a large number of prizes,” Narelle Barker, Past Rotary President and MC for the evening, told The Weekly Times. “Rotarians added to the variety of items on offer. Students at the event represented the following participating schools: Denistone East Public School, Description of Proposal • Construction of a six storey building and a seven storey building, consisting of university related office; administration and laboratory uses, and commercially-leased office and laboratory uses; • Excavation to form a new part two, part three level basement car-park; • Site remediation works; and • New landscaping and public domain works. Wednesday 16 January, 2019 THE WEEKLY TIMES 17 Keeping it in the family at Leisure Lea Gardens WHEN Leisure Lea Gardens Retirement Village first opened in 1980, Val Hallowes’ parents John and Christina Mercer were the second residents to move in. Now she and her husband Malcolm have followed in their footsteps, selecting an apartment directly opposite her late parents’ unit. “It was like coming home - everything is so OPEN DAY 22 nd JANUARY familiar,” says Val. “My parents lived on the Central Coast and we suggested that they move closer to us. We lived across the road from the village and watched it being built. Mum and Dad moved in one day after it opened. Dad passed away in 1985 but my mum was here until 2004.” When Malcolm had a bad fall and broke his leg, they felt the time was right to move into a retirement village where they could have more support, including an on-site dining-room and home care services. “We came back to Leisure Lea Gardens and found it had been modernised and extended,”said Val. “Malcolm and I expressed an interest in an apartment and moved in December 2017. We’ve settled in really well.” On-site dining room Val and Malcolm appreciate being able to enjoy meals in the dining-room when they feel like it and Malcolm enjoys playing darts. They were featured in a recent lifestyle photo shoot for the village and proved to be excellent “models”.
