The work was announced
on Monday
by Ryde MP Victor
Dominello who said it
is being delivered as
part of the NSW Government’s
commitment
to reduce congestion
and improve travel
times on one of Sydney’s
busiest road corridors.
Mr Dominello said the
work aims to improve
traffic flow for the
thousands of motorists
who travel through the
intersection each day.
“Work will be carried
out to create dual right
turn lanes on Blaxland
Road for motorists
turning onto First Avenue
and extending the
left turn lane on First
Avenue by 100 metres
to create more capacity
for motorists and
reduce the chance of
rear end crashes,” he
said.
“Medians at the intersection
will also be
modified to accommodate
the intersection
improvements.”
Mr Dominello said
work will be carried out
from January 21 and is
expected to be completed
by the end of
November.
“Improving the intersection
at Blaxland
Road and First Avenue
will help take the
squeeze out of one
of the biggest pinch
points in Sydney’s
north west.”
Work will be carried
out between 7am and
6pm on weekdays as
well as between 8am
and 1pm on Saturdays,
weather permitting.
Night work will be
carried out from 6pm
to 7am from Sunday
to Friday for up to five
nights per week.
“Roads and Maritime
Services will keep the
community informed
as work progresses
on this project,” Mr
Dominello said.
“The NSW Government
is committed to
improving safety and
easing congestion
on all roads and this
project is just another
piece of the puzzle
which will benefit motorists
and the community
for years to
come.
“The intersection of
Blaxland Road and
First Avenue is one of
the busiest in north
west Sydney, with
more than 3,500 vehicles
using the intersection
in the morning and
afternoon peaks.”
Motorists are advised
to drive to the changed
conditions and follow
the direction of traffic
control and signs.
Roads and Maritime
thanks the community
for its patience while
work is carried out.
