BULLDOGS MAKE FINAL STOP OF THE SEASON
FRONTS LOOK TO EVEN SERIES IN FINAL MEETING BETWEEN DIVISION RIVALS
T
he battle of the black and gold has been a tight one
this season. Heading into the final meeting of the season
the Bulldogs lead the season series 3-2. The teams
have split the first two Bulldogs visits this season with
Hamilton winning on November 9 and Kingston returning
the favour on November 18.
It was less than a week ago that these two rivals met
last. The Frontenacs had a solid effort in Hamilton on
January 12th, but Zachary Roy held them off the score
sheet for his first career shutout. Kingston held Hamilton
off the scoreboard until past the midway point of the
game before Liam Van Loon broke the scoreless tie. They
would go on to get goals from Strome, Landry and Morrison
to seal a 4-0 victory.
The Frontenacs returned home the following night
and put in a gutsy effort against the North Bay Battalion
taking a 2-1 victory on the back of Brendan Bonello’s 56
save performance. They then enjoyed 4 days off before
hosting the Oshawa Generals on Friday night. Today’s
game is the third game of a four game homestand for
the Frontenacs.
Since the Bulldogs moved to Hamilton from Belleville,
there hasn’t been much separation between Kingston
and Hamilton. They have met in the playoffs each of the
previous two seasons with each team winning a series. In
regular season contests the Bulldogs have the smallest
of advantages with 12 wins to Kingston’s 11. The Frontenacs
success rate at home has been slightly better than
on the road against the Bulldogs. Kingston is 6-3-2-0 on
home ice while allowing 2.63 goals against per game
compared to 5-6-0-1 in Hamilton allowing 3.91 goals on
average. KF
Sometimesplayers just need an opportunity to show
what they are capable of. That has been the case
since Adrien Beraldo joined the Frontenacs after a
trade with the Peterborough Petes. The chance to
play a regular shift and contribute to the team has
quickly shown fans that Beraldo was a steal for the
price Kingston paid for him.
Before he played in the OHL, Adrien played his
minor midget year for the Hamilton Jr Bulldogs. He put
up impressive numbers for a defenceman scoring 4
enough depth to move Beraldo. The Frontenacs
hockey operations group saw something they liked in
Adrien and offered a 10th round pick for the 18 year
old defenceman, which the Petes accepted.
In just 7 games with the Frontenacs Beraldo has
scored 4 goals, one more than he had scored in his
previous 82 games with the Petes. In his first game
with the team he came to the aid of Brendan Bonello
and dropped the gloves with Serron Noel. He may
have taken an instigator and 17 minutes in penalties,
goals and 16 assists for 20 points in just 29 games. He
also played in one game for the Ancaster Avalanche.
In that game he recorded 10 penalty minutes.
At seasons end he entered the OHL Priority
Selection and was selected by the Peterborough
Petes in the 5th round, 88th overall. The Petes felt he
needed more development and he spent that season
playing for the Avalanche in the GOJHL, a Toronto area
Junior B league. With the Avalanche he contributed
in many ways. He had 3 goals and 17 assists for 20
points while also providing a physical force having 53
penalty minutes over 43 games.
It was the 2017-18 season when Beraldo made
his OHL debut with the Petes. Just 4 games into the
season he recorded his first OHL goal against the
Niagara IceDogs. His second career goal came against
his future team, the Kingston Frontenacs. In limited
playing time during his rookie season Beraldo scored
2 goals and 4 assists. He also spent 23 minutes in the
penalty box.
Throughout the opening half of his second season
Beraldo didn’t see his opportunities increasing as
far as ice time went. When the Petes acquired Ryan
Merkley from the Guelph Storm, they felt they had
OFFICIAL GAMEDAY MAGAZINE, VOLUME 46, ISSUE 24
but he earned the respect of his new teammates at the
same time. He is the type of teammate players want
and the type of player coaches love. With Kingston, he
is now getting the opportunity he deserves. KF
