MOS1—Land North of School Lane<br />
<strong>The</strong> Parish Council has been advised that<br />
the hearing for the appeal for the above<br />
site will take place on 12-14th <strong>Feb</strong>ruary.<br />
We are still waiting to be advised of the<br />
location of the hearing, so please keep an<br />
eye out for the venue when it is published<br />
on our website (milfordonsea.org.uk) or<br />
Facebook page and on our noticeboards.<br />
Precept <strong>2019</strong>/20<br />
<strong>The</strong> Parish Council has agreed to raise the<br />
precept (the money it receives from the<br />
District Council) by 6.5%. This equates to a<br />
£1.87 increase per household for the<br />
entire year and is a much smaller increase<br />
than many neighbouring towns and<br />
villages.<br />
Community Orchard Planting<br />
Several new trees were planted recently in<br />
the Community Orchard on Studland<br />
Common. In addition, the Milford<br />
Conservation Volunteers (MCV) conducted<br />
a large-scale clearance around the<br />
boundaries and the fenced trees in the<br />
orchard to make maintenance and pruning<br />
<strong>Feb</strong>ruary/<strong>Mar</strong>ch <strong>2019</strong><br />
easier over the coming years. <strong>The</strong> Parish<br />
Council would like to thank all those who<br />
helped in the work.<br />

Hedge Management<br />
<strong>The</strong> Parish Council is working to reduce<br />
the height of all parish-owned hedges to a<br />
manageable level. <strong>The</strong> project will take<br />
several years to complete and has the<br />
support of the MCV.<br />
<strong>The</strong> hedges have become rather tall and<br />
“leggy” in recent years. This means that<br />
the inside of the hedge offers less suitable<br />
places for birds to build their nests. Bird<br />
surveys recently undertaken have shown<br />
that few birds are nesting in the hedges<br />
because they are not dense enough to<br />
