Sound in body, sound in mind
Complimentary
workout, mindset
sessions offered at
Lululemon Malibu
Barbara Burke
Freelance Reporter
Laura St. John is a vivacious,
dynamic bundle of
energy.
She is the kind of person
who engages one in
conversation, thrusting her
whole being into the exchange.
Her enthusiasm is
infectious.
On Sundays now through
Feb. 24, St. John and her
organization, Strong. Confident.
Living., are offering
complimentary, one-hour
workout and mindset sessions
for Malibu families
at Lululemon Athletica in
Malibu. Sessions are held
at 10 a.m.
“We want to bring together
families so that
they can sweat and laugh
together and get a reprieve
while we are all rebuilding
Malibu,” St. John said.
Malibu Surfside News
sat down to chat about the
classes.
“We open up with a
circle time and do a quick
mindset lesson where kids
and adults can set a ‘I can,
I will!’ attitude,” St. John
said. “All ages and all abilities
are welcome.”
In the mat workouts,
participants do not use any
equipment.
“The beauty of these
workouts is that you
only use your own body
weight,” Scott St. John
said. “We give a road map
to participants. I don’t want
to be told what to do, and
those working out don’t either.
What’s important is to
find what you like and get
moving.”
Participants of all ages
can join in the classes.
“It was an awesome class
and a great experience,” said
Rebecca Ovsiowitz, who recently
attended a class. “It
was a fun, family-bonding
time.” Kim Bubbs and her
husband, Aaron Toledo, also
enjoyed the family-friendly
fitness opportunity with
their daughters Sarah Toledo,
3, and Claire Toledo,
1. Bubbs noted that anyone
could join in the class and
engage according to their
own level and tempo.
“The class was a great
way for us to fit in some
workout time as busy parents,
and it was wonderful
to do the workouts as
a family,” she said. “It was
a blast, and all of our long
naps after the class were a
wonderful bonus.”
Bubbs also enjoyed the
fact that, once a person
learns a workout from the
St. Johns, they can do it
anywhere.
“Anyone can do the
workouts at their own
level,” she said. “It’s just
amazing that you can workout
effectively with just
your own body weight.”
