Spring programs are planned in Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks and Calabasas. The leagues provide an eight-week program which meets twice a week. Each program is structured around the principles of participation, teamwork, skill development, sportsmanship and fun. Practices and games operate in a coed format and offer participants the opportunity to develop self-esteem and confidence. The Agoura Hills USY- VL will run from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesdays and from 9-10 a.m. on Saturdays from April 3-June 8 at Chumash Park, located at 5550 Medea Valley Drive in Agoura Hills. The Oak Park USYVL is scheduled to meet from 6-7 p.m. Thursdays and 9-10 a.m. Saturdays April 4-June 8 at Deerhill Park, located at 6700 Doubletree Road. The Thousand Oaks USYVL is to meet from 6-7 p.m. Tuesdays and 9-10 a.m. Saturdays April 2-June 8 at Wildflower Playfield, located at 635 W. Avenida De Los Arboles. The Calabasas USYVL will run from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 9-10 a.m. on Saturdays from April 2-June 8 at Chaparral Elementary, located at 22601 Liberty Bell Road in Calabasas. Another Calabasas program is offered from 6-7 p.m. Thursdays and 9-10 a.m. Saturdays at Bay Laurel Elementary (24740 Paseo Primario) from April 4-June 8. USYVL is a volunteer organization built around community involvement. Under the direction of the USYVL National Office, Site Directors, Clinicians (volleyball instructors), volunteers assist with coaching, equipment set-up and administrative duties. Leagues offer multiple opportunities for parents to be actively involved in the success of the program. From last year to this one, where would you say you most improved as a player? Controlling the pace I play at and not playing out of control. How did you deal with having a bigger role this year? I practiced a ton over the summer knowing that many people would leave [the team]. It helped having [teammate] Tanner Sausser there to guide me. What do you like about playing for coach Luke Davis? He let us play our way. Our style. Do you have a favorite NBA player? [Golden State Warriors guard] Steph Curry. He’s just such a great player and he’s a great shooter. Who were your role models growing up? My mom and older brother. What are your hobbies outside of basketball? I like to draw and make music with my brother. What’s your least favorite food? I really don’t have a least favorite food, but I do hate tomatoes. If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why? Probably super speed or teleportation because it can get me to the place I need to be in no time. What’s your favorite place to eat in Malibu? Bui Sushi. What was it like to play with a bunch of new teammates after so many key players graduated last year? It was definitely a challenge because new chemistry has to be evolved and we rarely had practice time together.
