COLLINSON CUSTOM BUILDING presents
KINGSTON FRONTENACS GAMEDAY REPORT
MID WEEK GAME START OFF BUSY WEEKEND
LEAGUE-LEADING 67’S START OF 4 GAMES IN 6 DAYS FOR FRONTENACS
T
he Frontenacs are coming off a busy three game
weekend that included a lengthy bus trip to Owen
Sound and Guelph. They will get a quick break on
Monday and Tuesday, but that is where the rest ends
as they head into a weekend that includes three home
games, plus a trip to Barrie. All four of those games will
take place over a five and a half day stretch.
The busy schedule starts with a difficult opponent
tonight in the Ottawa 67’s. Kingston’s East division rival
was the first team in the OHL to clinch a playoff
spot with a win over Peterborough last Thursday night.
They have an embarrassment of riches when it comes
to league leaders. Tye Felhaber, who recently signed
with the Dallas Stars, leads the league in points (93)
and goals (53) while Austin Keating leads the OHL in
assists (55). Both goaltenders, Cedrick Andree and
Michael DiPietro are in the top 5 in the goals against
average and save percentage categories. Cedrick Andree
also sits atop the OHL in wins (30).
The Frontenacs weren’t able to get a win last
weekend, but had a much improved effort in two of
the three games. After recording 20 shots or less in
the previous three games, they put 24, 29 and 34 on
net in their next three. More shots resulted in more
goals for the most part. Fans were treated to a great
game against the Petes on Friday night that ended in
a 4-3 shootout loss. The next night Kingston scored 4
times in Owen Sound, but gave up an empty net goal
late and lost 6-4. Despite the results, these two games
were two of the best efforts the team has had in 2019.
Kingston fans can get used to seeing the Ottawa
67’s over the next month. Kingston has just six home
games remaining this season, three of which are
against the 67’s. The only previous visit that Ottawa
made this season was the School Day Game in November.
Kingston has already made three of the four
trips to Ottawa this season. The last trip to Ottawa
comes on March 17, the final game of the season. The
Frontenacs are still looking for their first win of the season
against the 67’s. KF
Zayde Wisdom is a quiet, easy going person
when he isn’t in hockey equipment. When he
laces up his skates that changes in a big way. All
reports say that Zayde just wants to play hockey.
He loves the game and he loves being on the
ice with his teammates. He also loves making
it known to the opponent that he is on the ice
every shift. He is a physical force despite standing
just 5’ 10”. His work ethic has made him a fan
As a young player, fans have had the chance
to see Zayde develop over the first half of the
season. His ice time has increased along with
his confidence. At one point this season he spent
time on the top line with Brett Neumann and
Jason Robertson signaling that the coaching staff
also liked what they were seeing from him. He
has recorded 2 goals and 4 assists so far in his
rookie season, but as time goes on and Zayde
favourite in Kingston at just 16 years old.
Zayde grew up in Toronto, ON and played
minor hockey for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. In
his minor midget season he scored 15 goals
and added 38 assists for a total of 53 points in
57 games. That number gave him the second
highest total on his team.
The Kingston Frontenacs had to wait a long
time between picks in the 2018 OHL Priority
Selection. They selected Jake Murray in the
opening round, but didn’t pick again until the
fourth round of the draft. They were happy to see
Zayde Wisdom still available when they picked
73rd overall and quickly selected him with that
pick.
Following training camp in September, the
Frontenacs entered into a Standard Player
Agreement with Zayde making him a member
of the Black and Gold for the 2018-19 season.
He made his OHL debut on opening night for the
Frontenacs in Peterborough on September 20th.
OFFICIAL GAMEDAY MAGAZINE, VOLUME 46, ISSUE 29
becomes more familiar with the league fans can
expect to see those numbers go up as they watch
him over his entire career. KF
