A threaded needle wouldn’t typically be considered an artisan’s tool unless you examined the handiwork<br />
of the ladies that make up the Mississippi Homemaker Volunteer Rankin Quilters. It’s an eight-year-old<br />
organization under the umbrella of the Mississippi Extension Service with advisory assistance by<br />
Natasha Haynes, the extension agent for Rankin County.<br />
Being assigned to spotlight this group, I ran from a June rainstorm into their meeting that begins at<br />
1 p.m. the second Monday of each month. The gigantic extension meeting room at 601 Marquette Road<br />
was already active with ladies sorting through sewing craft books and magazines.<br />
Natasha Haynes was busy setting up a brief introductory program – “Ten Things You Need to<br />
Know about Instant Pot.” Obviously it had nothing to do with quilting, but the group always has a guest<br />
