The REAL Easter Egg – the only one with the Easter story The Real Easter Egg is here to help you celebrate the Real Easter. Chocolate that tastes good and does good. Fairtrade chocolate, plastic free, palm oil free, Easter story and activity sheet in each box. Through Fairtrade, farmers receive a fair price for their sugar and cocoa and an extra Fairtrade Premium cash payment which they can use to invest in their community, buying everything from schoolbooks to solar panels and providing fresh water supplies. The sugar comes from co-operatives in Paraguay and Belize. The cocoa comes from co-operatives in the Ivory Coast (Kuapa Kokoo Co-operative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Union Limited Ghana). Beans are also sourced from cooperatives in the Dominican Republic, Peru, Panama and Ecuador. Let’s remind folk that Easter eggs are not about super heroes or TV shows, but relate to new life in Jesus. But that doesn’t stop us enjoying chocolate! Plain or milk are available and some of the profi t goes to charities, including the Leprosy Mission and the Trussell Trust. Please order in Church on Sunday 24th and 31st March for collection on Sunday 14th April (milk - £3.99 each; dark chocolate £5.30 each). The Trussell Trust, operating in our area as Renfrewshire Foodbank www.renfrewshire. foodbank.org.uk depends on general public donations for 90% of the food they distribute. While donations are accepted at many locations on a daily basis, Houston & Killellan Kirk collect weekly, but twice a year focus the appeal on two specifi c Sundays during the year. The next of these is 10th March 2019. (The second appeal is traditionally made at Harvest Thanksgiving each year.) A typical Food Parcel contains Breakfast Cereals, Soup, Pasta, Rice, Pasta Sauce, Tinned Beans, Tinned Meat, Tinned Vegetables, Tinned Fruit, Tea or Coffee, Sugar, Biscuits & Snacks. The Foodbank tends to run out of UHT Milk, Juice, Tomatoes, Potatoes & Sugar – while they often have a plentiful supply of Pasta, Beans & Soup. Grateful to those, who wish to support this most deserving initiative, if food donations could be brought to the Kirk at the 11am Morning Service on Sunday 10th March. The Cameo Club The Club enjoyed a lovely afternoon when children from Houston and St Fillan’s Primary Schools paid a visit in February, both young and not so young, enthusiastically joined in the games supplied by the Cameo club and the school children. The afternoon fi nished with tea, juice, biscuits and shortbread. We thank the children very much for a very happy afternoon and look forward to seeing them again later in the year. The Club Meets every second Wednesday in the West Halls, Main Street, Houston. Please feel free to join us any Wednesday you have free. World Day of Prayer This year the World Day of Prayer will be held in Houston and Killellan Kirk on Friday 1st March at 7.30pm a warm welcome is extended to all. Houston and Killellan Kirk Carnival SATURDAY 11th MAY - SUPERHEROES The theme this year is SUPERHEROES you can be a superhero of your own. We know about Superman, Spider-Man and Wonder woman to name a few but there are many heroes out there come along to the Kirk Carnival on Saturday 11th May and show off your hero. Join in on the parade and let everyone see you as SUPERHERO. Remember anybody can be a hero. We will be having numerous stalls something for everybody some new ones and some we have had before. Remember if you are planting seeds for plants please think of our plant stall. Details of other stalls will be in next months issue. Last year we raised £13,000, the money raised from the Carnival will go to the Kirk and the Community. We would like to see more local groups taking part in the parade this is also a way of making your group or organization known to the community. At the carnival last year we had a number of local groups performing on an outside stage, Zumba, Country Dancing, Choirs and more if you or your organisation would like to, perform please contact the conveners . The Carnival Programme is a great way to advertise your business etc, please consider using this to promote your company the programme is distributed in Houston and Crosslee. We thank the community and organisations for all their support. We have enjoyed meeting such a variety of people. Any monies from donations remaining in our account will be divided between BHF and the Heartstart scheme.
