St Columba’s School
Time For Tea!
On Saturday 9th February we
were delighted to open our doors
to the whole community as we
hosted our Early Years Tiger Tea.
The event was a real success,
with lots of new and familiar
faces stopping by to participate
in storytelling, tiger crafts, face painting and of course to enjoy some of the
tasty tiger treats on offer.
Junior 2 children also entertained their
families at a Grandparents’ Tea Party with
songs, poems, dancing and, of course,
plenty of tea and delicious cakes!
Public Speaking and Debating
Success
Recently a number of our pupils have
represented the School at various
debating and public speaking
competitions. SI pupils Sophie
Hannigan and Stella McCardie
have now progressed to the fourth
round of the Scottish Schools
Debating Juniors Competition
(SSD Juniors), along with a team from Douglas Academy. Beating off stiff
competition from The High School of Glasgow and Kelvinside Academy.
Quite the result given this is Sophie and Stella’s first year of competitive
debating. On Sunday 3rd February, Bronte Marritt (SIII), Laurie McDougall
and Emma Ventham (Transitus) competed in the Intermediate District Final
of the Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition at Caledonian University. The
team saw off competition from St Aloysius, Hamilton College, and Douglas
Academy, among a number of others, and were awarded Runners Up.
Charlotte Westwood and Eilidh Lindsay (SIV) won the Scottish Regional
Qualifier of the International Competition for Young Debaters (ICYD) and
now progress to Finals Day in Cambridge.
DofE Gold and
Silver Training
Weekend
Thankfully the sun
was shining for most
of the weekend, even
if it was still a little
cold, for our Gold and
Silver groups visiting
Castle Semple and
Lochgoilhead for a
training weekend as
part of their Duke of
Edinburgh’s Award.
We are sure you will
agree that the photos
capture Scotland at
its best.
