Crusaders help find volunteers for child cancer street appeal CRUSADERS players are helping the Child Cancer Foundation in its bid for volunteers for this year’s annual street appeal. On March 15 and 16, volunteers will take the streets to help raise funds that are vital to supporting more than 1700 families affected by cancer. Said Child Cancer Foundation business development manager Claire Robb: “We are very grateful for their continued support to help raise awareness about Child Cancer Foundation and the work that we do. We are calling on individuals, organisations and businesses to help with our appeal and to get involved in this fabulous community engagement opportunity.” Said Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge: “We’re really proud to support some of our young fans and their families by raising awareness about the Child Cancer Foundation Appeal. This is a meaningful initiative for our players, who are able to put a smile on the faces of members of our community who are going through a really tough time.” The foundation receives no direct funding from the Government, and we relies on donations to support the children and their families. Register here: www.childcancer. org.nz or email Claire Robb at crobb@ childcancer.org.nz for more information Gary Knight responds to the Western News article on upgrades to the Middleton, Ilam and Riccarton Rds intersection, the fourth most dangerous in the city As with the notorious traffic hot spot of Breens, Gardiners and Harewood Rds, the equally congested Middleton, Ilam and Riccarton Rds intersection has the potential for increased serious or fatal crashes. To alleviate this problem, restricting Riccarton Rd from Middleton Rd to left turns from either direction and allowance for increased footpath space would be a viable and realistic solution. Removal of slip lanes CHANGE: Safey upgrades are planned for the city’s fourth dangerous intersection, Ilam, Middleton and Riccarton Rd. from Ilam Rd into Riccarton Rd would effectively turn what is at present a volatile intersection due to the offset alignment of three roads into a manageable T intersection. Rated as the cities fourth most dangerous intersection would deem this remedial work most essential.
