4 LIVING LIFE LOVE PEOPLE VOLUNTEERING CANTERBURY Although we are only one month into <strong>2019</strong>, the Group Volunteering programme is very much up and running. Already we have 30 teams scheduled to be giving a hand at community organisations throughout the year ... we are delighted to be helping groups to ‘make a difference’! Pick a Friday : 1 March Weeding and re-mulching alongside a regular volunteer group at a garden; you will be working alongside a group of men in recovery and will have an opportunity to discuss the programme beforehand with the group’s facilitator so that all involved have a clear understanding of the part played by the ‘Family Recovery Garden’ in addiction recovery and impact, especially on families. A group of 10+ welcome - 9.30 to midday : bbq to finish! Need more information on any of these projects? contact Glenda outreach@ volcan.org.nz ANNUAL FUNDRAISING As well as the ‘adopt a site’ option, there is always a need for individuals to contribute their volunteer day or half day to causes through fundraising such as street appeals, Home and Garden Tours, etc. Fundraising is integral to organisations which we work with being able to provide the services they do every day. If you have team members interested in the following upcoming fundraising events, please contact outreach@volcan.org.nz Ongoing: Cat Rescue (Saturdays, outside supermarkets) 15-16 March : Child Cancer Foundation CONSERVATION AND THE ENVIRONMENT Weeding, clearing areas and re-planting projects are ongoing at places including Orana Park, Willowbank Wildlife Reserve, South Island Wildlife Hospital, and Summit Road Society sites. Other organisations, for example, NZ Spinal Trust and Hohepa also reach out to us from time to time for a ‘working bee’ on their grounds. They now offer six membership options. Next Event: 18 March, they will co-host an Open Event with the Japanese Consulate (Grave of the Fireflies)
