lockportlegend.com sports the lockport legend | March 21, 2019 | 37 Lockport native named collegiate player of the week Submitted by UW-Stout Lockport Township graduate Meghan Kelly was recently named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball position player of the week. Kelly, a sophomore at University of Wisconsin- Stout, drove in six runs over three games Feb. 23- 24 and posted a batting average of .583 and an OPS of 1.500 to help UW-Stout to a 3-0 start. Kelly was instrumental in helping UW-Stout start the season off with a 3-0 record as the Blue Devils defeated St. Catherine University (Minn.) 6-4, Loras College (Iowa) 7-4, and Grinnell College (Iowa) 12-6 at the Luther College Dome Games in Rochester, Minn. On the weekend, Kelly was 7-12 with six RBI on two doubles and a triple and one stolen base. Against St. Catherine, Kelly was 3-4 with two RBI, with her RBI double topping off a fourrun fourth inning. Kelly reached on an outfield error in the sixth inning for what would prove to be the final run of the game. Kelly came on to pitch in the bottom of the sixth with no outs and two runners on and did not allow a run to earn the save. Kelly was 2-4 with an RBI against Loras, driving in UW-Stout’s first run of the game. Against Grinnell, Kelly was 2-of-4 with three RBI, driving in the first run of the game with a double in the first inning. She then drove in two runs in the second inning. Kelly pitched the first three innings of the game, then returned to pitch in the sixth inning, before exiting in the seventh. In the circle, Kelly made two appearances, going 1-0 with a save, scattering seven hits, allowing two earned runs, walking two and striking out two.
