When and why did you start playing soccer? I started when I was really young because my parents wanted me to get used to playing a variety of sports. What do you like most about the sport? I love the people and all the girls you meet and how competitive it is. Do you have any superstitions before a game? What is one thing people don’t know about you? People don’t know I sneeze five or six times a day. If you could be any superhero, what super power would you want? I would want to teleport to places so I can get places really fast. What would you do if you won the lottery? I would go to Poland because I’ve been there before and it’s really pretty and I have family from there. If you could play any other sport, which sport would it be? Numerous Spartans athletes earned conference honors for their performance on the field and in the classroom. Then there’s always the challenge of once you do figure out what your stating lineup is making sure that everyone is still involved and is still feeling like they’re part of the team, that they play a role. I think that’s the biggest thing that everyone feels like they’re included. I think we’re going to have to fill some pretty important positions. We lost one of our outside hitters, we lost setters, we’ve got some key positions that we need to fill. How do you make sure you’re fitting each person at the best position to help the team succeed? It’s hard. It’s more about where they’re needed than where their skill level. We’ve got a few kids who can play multiple positions, so we got to experiment can they be a middle and be an outside. We’re just trying to figure all that out and we’re lucky to have some athletes who can change around like that. This year’s team has the ability to have movement. How do you battle lack of experience other than playing more games? So hopefully that transition won’t be that hard. Where the tough part comes in is we’ve got a couple young kids, a couple sophomore who will see some playing time an they’ve never had that varsity experience of practicing in our gym, so it just takes a little while to get the cohesiveness you need at the varsity level to take place. That comes with time. This group of seniors seems to be really good at including the young guys and if you walk into our gym, the way they hang out with each other, I don’t think you’d know who’s a senior, who’s a junior and who’s a sophomore, which I think is great. Who are you looking forward to seeing this season? Our two starters who are coming back this season, Ethan Brodell and Tim Lillig have both looked pretty good; they’re juniors. We’ve got a couple guys who are coming out of other sports, so they’re shaking out of the rust. We’ve got Jack Joselit and he’s starting to show off he’s shaking off the rust. We’ve got a good battle at setter, we’ve got three kids who are doing a nice job of battling out the position, I’m not sure who’s going to get it. It’s always one of the things that we talk about. We’ve been very lucky to have had a lot of conference success since I’ve been here. We’ve had a number of years where we’ve won conference, so we don’t want this year to be any different. We know that if we win conference we’re doing something right. It’s always a goal. I haven’t really talked to the kids yet and I’m not sure if they’ve really thought about it too much, but we’ll probably mention it at some point and it might be another motivating factor to say let’s make our mark this year. That’ll help us prepare for next year that if we can dominate this side of the conference, then maybe we’ll have success in the other half, which I expect we will. I don’t think we’ll it’ll be quite as, I don’t want to say easy, but the balance in the other division is better.
