Winemaker Carlos Moro has 53 hectares<br />

of vines on the Valdefinjas farm, located 12<br />

kilometres from the centre of the town of<br />

Toro. The farm also grows olives and has<br />

a pine forest. Soils are low in fertility with<br />

clay and calcareous components. Produced<br />

from 100% Tinta de Toro, the Cyan de<br />

Matarromera 2014 was matured for<br />

16 months in oak with 60% American and<br />

40% French barrels and has a distinctly<br />

woody character with nutmeg and cooked<br />

fruit aromas. It is supple with blueberries<br />

and blackberry flavours and a grippy finish.<br />

element. It was matured<br />

for twelve months in a<br />

combination of French<br />

and American oak casks<br />

with the oak completely integrated with the<br />

fruit, giving the wine a fine texture. A good<br />

vintage in Ribera del Duero, 2016 was witness<br />

to a mild winter followed by a cool and wet<br />

spring with summer arriving late. When it did<br />

finally arrive, it was hot and dry but tempered<br />

by the cool nights.<br />
