Petitions Tribunal sitting in
Calabar has told politicians
and their proxies that the
panel has no agent or
representative of any sort,
stressing that anyone
dealing with any agents
was doing that at his own
peril.
Speaking during the
inaugural sitting of the
Tribunal, yesterday on the
premises of the State High
Court, with Justice Agbata
as Chairman, Justice
Ishaku Kunda and Justice
Abukakar Bello as
members respectively,
Justice Agbata said for the
avoidance of doubt, the
tribunal has no agent nor
representative and neither
does the tribunal have
anyone as proxy working
on their behalf in any
capacity.
He said, “I have not
appointed any agent or
representative. Anyone
you are dealing with,
claiming to be our agent,
you are doing that onyour
own peril. We run an open
door policy and everything
and anyone that wants to
approach us can do that in
the open court and not
outside or behind.
“Please, no one should
try to reach me or any
member of the Tribunal
privately for any reason.
Every concern must be in
the open court because we
are here to serve. We remain
learned friends but there
will be no private business
of any sort or coloration at
all.
In his remarks, the
Attorney General of Cross
River State, Joe Abang,
who asserted that election
matters were controversial,
highly sensitive and
contentious, urged the
judges to honestly
discharge their duties
without fear or favour.
He asserted: “You must
see your appointment as a
call to greater service to the
nation. I therefore urge you
to abide by your oath of
office by courageously and
honestly discharging your
duty without fear or favour.

Election Petitions Tribunal
for governorship, National
and State Assembly have
received 30 petitions
including 16 for the state
House of Assembly and
House of Representatives
eight, while they received
four for Senate and two for
governorship elections.

recent report in some
dailies that a court had
restrained National Union
of Road Transport Workers
in the 25 Local
Government Areas,LGAs,
of Delta State from
collecting levies from
members of Otor-Udu and
Otu-Jeremi Block
Industries Association in
the state, the Otor-Udu and
Otu-Jeremi Block
Industries Association,
yesterday refuted the
report.
It said that only 18 local
government areas and the
Ministry of Commerce and
Industry were restrained by
the court.

and Otu-Jeremi Block
Industries Association, J.
Sini, told journalists that
in suit No. OUHC/171/
2017, the Otor-Udu and
Otu-Jeremi Block
Industries Association as
claimants, prayed the court
to restrain the defendants
(18 LGAs and Delta State
Ministry of Commerce and
Industries) from
collecting levies from the
claimants’ drivers and in
any part of the state.

PORT HARCOURT—
THE Ogoni Liberation
Initiative, OLI, has urged
the Federal Government to
open dialogue with the
people of Ogoni in order to
end the persistent economic
and environmental crisis
bedevilling the area.
OLI made the call at the
2nd World Economic
Submit, a platform to discuss
issues bordering on
empowerment and
development of Ogoniland,
and graduation of 200
sister security forces in the
north, strategies deployed
in restoring peace in the
hitherto troubled region.
They said this would help
curtail crime wave in the
northern part of the country
which is currently grappling
with the activities of Boko
Haram and others criminal
elements.
President of the
organisation, Isah Abubakar
made the appeal yesterday
in Yenagoa while
presenting an award of
excellence to the
Commander of the JTF,
Rear Admiral Apochi
Suleiman.
Abubakar lamented that
the spate of insecurity in
parts of the north had
become worrisome hence
the need for the leadership
of the JTF to share
intelligence with sister
security forces to tackle the
menace.
He said: “The operation
noted that “The problem
is that government policy
may be in one direction,
while we as partners may
be in another direction.
“The budgetary system is
often limited thereby
compounding the problems
of lack of accountability. The
challenge of interest rate
and devaluation of currency
with diverse protections
have consequences on
budgeting which is always
a major problem generally.”
He listed accountability,
transparency, and good
governance as three areas
of interventions by the
Foundation in Nigeria and
called for a review in
budgeting processes and
deployment of technology in
Nigerian universities.

Delta) might not be able to
curb the happenings there.”
