The deceased was alleged to have been sent to pluck the mango by one of his teachers, Mrs Kura, in the school after their tutorials Saturday afternoon. . He said the two officials would also have been set ablaze but for the quick intervention that saved them from the attempted jungle justice. He said the reason for the dastardly attack was yet to be ascertained, even as the two officials have been taken to the hospital. He spoke when Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, visited some computer based test, CBT, centres in Abuja during the mock examination. The registrar said the attack took place at a centre in the Lagos State Polytechnic. He said: “The very first sad thing that we noticed was that two of our staff were almost murdered in Lagos. “There was an attempt on their lives at the Lagos State Polytechnic. For whatever reason, they were wet with petrol and they were to be set ablaze. “We have sent a rescue team and they took them to the hospital. We are still looking into what happened, but we have evacuated our staff from the place. “We hope that whoever attempted that, the law enforcement agencies will not allow such an assault on innocent officials of government who went about their normal business remained unknown after the incident is the Physics teacher for the Senior Secondary 3 class in the school. The death of Temitayo was said to be the fourth after three other students fell from the mysterious mango tree and died after being asked to pluck the fruits by teachers in the school. Previous deaths, it was gathered, have been concealed by the school authorities from the public as they always settle with the parents of the victims. The late Temitayo had last Saturday gone for tutorials in the school and after the session was allegedly asked by the female teacher to help her pluck some mangoes. Temitayo reportedly slipped on the mango tree, fell and hit his head on the ground and rushed to three separate hospitals before he gave up the ghost at Trauma centre in Ondo town. Teacher's whereabouts unknown Speaking with Vanguard in Akure, the state police image maker, Femi Joseph, said the command would declare the suspect wanted if she failed to show up at the police station for interrogation. Joseph said the whereabouts of the female teacher had remained unknown since the incident happened last weekend. He said the Principal of the school, Mr Olaoye, had been quizzed after he was invited by the state police command. He said; “We would declare the female teacher wanted if she failed to show up today (yesterday) to tell us her own side of the story. “The school principal had volunteered statement to us and we are yet to see the female teacher who asked the deceased to help her pluck the mangoes. “Our detectives visited the school and if not for our timely intervention the students were about to mob the teachers. “We succeeded in calming their frayed nerves and normalcy had returned to the school. But we are still expecting the Temitayo female teacher who sent the boy to help her p l u c k mangoes before he died. The police Image maker said the father of the deceased had written a statement and that investigation had commenced. Ondo govt wades in Reports had it that the state government had waded into the matter by instructing the relevant authorities to investigate the death of the senior boy. The Education Commissioner, Pastor Femi Agagu, confirmed that the Education ministry had sent representatives of relevant education agencies, associations and bodies to the deceased parents and the school. Agagu assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated by his ministry. The commissioner, who described the death as “an unfortunate situation, said government would get to the root of the incident in a bid to guide against future occurrence. The Ministry of Education has taken over the matter so please speak with them." On when it was likely that the deceased would be buried, he said that as soon as the Ministry of Education is ready. Efforts to speak with the school principal, Mr Olaoye, were abortive as he was said to have been directed by the Education Ministry not to grant press interview. Photo: Abayomi Adeshida LASG rescues mother of twins, three others from uncompleted building By Olasunkanmi Akoni & Monsuru Olowoopejo LAGOS State Government has rescued a mother with her twins (name withheld), along with her three other children after delivery from an uncompleted building in Igando axis of the state. The rescue was sequel to the viral video on social media of the mother and her children who were helpless and in dilemma. Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Agboola Dabiri, made the remarks, yesterday, while briefing the press in Ikeja on the rescue mission. Dabiri explained that after the viral video of the mother and her children, the ministry raced down and rescued the mother and her children who were unstable at the point of arrival. He said: “We have rescued the mother and her five children including the twins from an uncompleted building. I can assure you that they are already stable.” The commissioner, however, lamented that many have taken advantage of the issue to raise money from residents. “Despite rescuing the mother and her five children including the twins, who were in safe custody, pictures have continuously been circulated. We have gotten several messages “The circulation of the pictures must stop and those using the pictures of the mother and her children to raise money must stop. No one should give money as charity to anyone for the sake of the children. They are with us. We are not asking for any donation. Whenever the evil force comes on me, I would be helpless, until I have accomplished its mission.” The suspect, who was arrested by policemen attached to Ejigbo division, was alleged to have been taking teenage boys, between 15 and 16 years old, to his apartment, where he penetrated them through the anus, at the end of which he would give each of the boys N2,000. But the bubble burst after one of the boys reported to his parents, who subsequently contacted policemen at Ejigbo. According to the children, it became very imperative for them to reject the offer by the administration because their entire happiness would be jeopardised if they are taken to an entirely new home. The children, who were brought with Police escorts to the minister’s office, from a temporary home where they were assembled after their orphanage was demolished last week by Department of Development Control, turned down the offer. Recall that an orphanage with a school and a church, known as Divine Words of Jesus Christ Church, occupied by a widow and 150 orphans, including infants, was reduced to rumbles by bulldozers of Department of Development Control Rev Chizemdere of the Federal Capital Territory Administration. The demolition took place in spite of the fact that the said property is still entangled in litigation. Addressing journalists, yesterday, in Abuja after a short meeting with the children and some officials of Social Development Secretariat, FCT Permanent Secretary, Mr. Christian Ohaa, said that FCTA wanted to make sure that the children were safe, given protection and welfare. According to Ohaa, the administration did not want to create further psychological trauma for the children, just as he said the administration had to concede to the children’s request to stay back with their care-giver.
