Page 34 Medway & Millis Local Town Pages www.localtownpages.com April 2019 Learn about the Charles River Meadowlands Group to Present Series of Forums in Franklin, Bellingham and Medway in April Garden Clubs Host Program on Rose Gardening Since late last year, the BETA Group, has been making field visits, developing maps, talking to officials in Franklin, Bellingham, and Medway, and developing exciting concepts for consideration going forward with The Charles River Meadowlands project, which received state funding thanks to local representatives. They have also helped identify real obstacles, for example potential rare-species areas that will likely have to be avoided. As they come close to completing their efforts, working with the BETA Group, the Charles River Meadowlands Initiative (www. charlesrivermeadowlands.org) is presenting a series of community forums in Bellingham, Franklin and Medway in April. Community members are invited to learn about the Charles River Meadowlands Initiative and share their thoughts. The scheduled meetings include: Thursday, April 11, 2019, 6:30 p.m. King Street Fire Station, 600 King Street, Franklin (enter the parking from Constitution Boulevard. The meeting room entrance is on the King Street side of the building. In cooperation with the Franklin Department of Planning and Community Development Tuesday, April 16, 2019, 6:30 p.m. Bellingham Town Hall, Arcand Meeting Room, 10 Mechanic Street. In cooperation with the Bellingham Planning and Zoning Department Monday, April 29, 2019, 6:30 p.m. Thayer Homestead, 2B Oak Street, Medway. In cooperation with the Medway Open Space Committee and the Medway Community and Economic Development Department The first 30 minutes of each meeting will be an opportunity for the public to look at mapping developed by BETA Group. BETA and the Meadowlands Initiative will make a formal presentation at 7 p.m. The balance of each evening will be for questions and answers and informal discussions with attendees. The information gathered On Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m., in the Norfolk Public Library Community Room, the Garden Club of Norfolk and the Millis Garden Club will host a program designed to help you grow the beautiful roses you always dreamed of having in your garden. In this free program, Six Simple Steps to Successful Rose Gardening, Mike and Angelina Chute will explain everything you need to know in six easy-to-follow steps that will take the mystery out of rose gardening. The program will include plenty of tips and personal anecdotes from the Chutes’ more than twenty-five years of rose gardening experience, demonstrating how easy it is to grow great roses in New England. You will see photos of their rose garden and learn which roses are best for our climate. “It’s easy to grow beautiful roses in your home garden once you know how,” says Mike Chute. Following the program, the Chutes will be available to sign copies of their books, “Roses for New England: A Guide to Sustainable Rose Gardening” and “Rose Gardening Season by Season: A Journal for Passionate Gardener.” The Chutes are American Rose Society Master Rosarians and Mike is an American Rose Society Horticulture Judge. They are founding members and past presidents of the Rhode Island Rose Society and enjoy exhibiting roses, competing in rose shows throughout New England and Montreal, and sharing their knowledge with others as speakers and consultants.
