An Evening with Nobel Laureate Professor<br />

Roger Kornberg<br />

Nobel Laureate and Hebrew University Professor Roger Kornberg spoke<br />

to 50 guests in Los Angeles on November 15, 2018. Kornberg shared<br />

his background and ground-breaking research in structural biology and<br />

macromolecules, for which he won the Nobel Prize in 2006. The event<br />

was hosted at Valentino restaurant by Western Region board members<br />

and spouses: Cindy and Gary Frischling, Abigail Goldman and Jonathan<br />

Anschell, Ellen and Mark Genender, and Jessica and Matt Babrick.<br />

Guests left the evening excited for future <strong>AFHU</strong> events and eager to become<br />

more involved.<br />

Western Region Mission<br />

to Amsterdam and Israel<br />

From October 7-17, <strong>AFHU</strong>’s Western<br />

Region Mission, chaired by board<br />

members Patricia Glaser and Sharon and<br />

Mark Vidergauz, journeyed to Amsterdam<br />

and Israel for VIP tours, receptions,<br />

and meetings with dignitaries including<br />

Ambassador Aviv Shir-On, Israel’s<br />

Ambassador to The Netherlands and<br />

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.<br />

The Bel Air Affaire 2018<br />

Come Together for a Night to Remember<br />

The groovy vibes of the sixties came back to Bel Air<br />

on Saturday, September 15, 2018, as Brindell Gottlieb<br />

graciously hosted the 10thAnnual Bel Air Affaire at<br />

her home, “The Milton.” Nearly 200 guests were<br />

transported back in time to when the Beatles were<br />

king, singing along to an energetic performance by<br />

Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles.<br />

Mission attendees enjoy a visit to Hebrew University’s Mt Scopus campus.<br />

Guests were welcomed by <strong>AFHU</strong> Western Regional<br />

President Mark Genender and the Hebrew University<br />

President Professor Asher Cohen, who brought warm<br />

greetings from Israel.<br />

Honorees Hella and Chuck Hershson, Event Chair Renae Jacobs-Anson<br />

<strong>AFHU</strong>’s Humanitarian Torch of Learning Award was<br />

presented to Hella and Chuck Hershson in celebration<br />

and recognition of their devotion, passion, and<br />

commitment to the Hebrew University and the State<br />

of Israel. This remarkable evening raised $950,000<br />

for student scholarships at the Hebrew University.<br />
