This marked a very special occasion for Homebush Boys High, Hills Sports High and Westfields Sports High schools, where awarded students became the first alumni of this year’s leadership program, progressing through the various stages of leadership development. Students worked with local primary schools by leading reading and cricket sessions - helping to umpire and coordinate the Cricket NSW Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup. Students also volunteered at community organisations alongside Creating Links - an organisation who engages members of the community through innovative programs and activities by identifying local needs - reading to children at the Community Reading Day in Chester Hill. Each student was given the opportunity in a leadership workshop to fine-tune and reflect on their skills with Sydney Thunder boss, Lee Germon - readying them for their final years of schooling. Star Thunder BBL wicketkeeper Jay Lenton and WBBL veteran Alex Blackwell - among others - featured throughout the program sharing their insights on leadership, goal-setting and belonging. The story sharing project titled ‘The NSW Inspirational Women Online Showcase’ aims to feature a range of women sharing videos online and giving advice for other women. Lane Cove MP Anthony Roberts hopes that women of all ages with inspiring stories of courage will take part in this initiative. “I would encourage the women of the Lane Cove Electorate who feel they can offer encouragement or inspiration to other women to share their stories and participate in the online mentoring campaign,” he said. “Women from our community come from all walks of life and have valuable insights that can empower young women to develop confidence and reach their full potential.” The campaign is part of the NSW Women’s Strategy 2018- 2022 which Mr Roberts described as a whole-of-government response to improve the economic, social and physical wellbeing of women. The 35-year old will bring down the curtain on his 18-year career after the Sky Blues’ final game of the current campaign. “Football and Sydney FC has allowed me to have some of the most incredible experiences I could ever have imagined,” Brosque said. “To have been able to do something I’ve loved ever since I was a young boy, and for this long, is incredibly humbling. “But after 18 years playing the game, I feel the time is right now to retire.” He said the club and its members had been fantastic to him and the connection he had with them was something he would carry with him forever. Thieves impersonate Eastwood police Police allege the pair entered the shop around 1.20pm and forced the 31 year old male customer to the ground, while the other jumped over the counter and emptied the contents of a safe into a bag. Two wallets were also stolen before the pair fled the store before taking the pair’s wallets. One alleged theif is described as being around 20 years old, about 182cm tall, with mediumlength strawberry blond hair. The other alleged thief is described as being of Caucasian appearance with a tanned complexion, aged in his late 20s, about 180cm tall, with short black hair, and a trimmed beard. Both are depicted wearing black suits with white shirts, black ties, and sun- glasses. Detectives urge anyone who may be able to assist to contact Ryde Police Station or Crime Stoppers. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. ****** A WEST RYDE man was arrested and charged with Indecent Assault last week. Police allege the 31 year old indecently assaulted a 23 year old woman near Meadowbank Station at 11.57 pm on Friday, April 5th. “The woman walked up the stairs onto the footbridge followed by the man,” police said. “The woman stopped as she was attempting to put her shoes on and the man followed her, with his face covered with a bandana. “He then indecently grabbed the woman. “The woman then grabbed the man by the hair, pulling two of his dreadlocks from his head, screamed out and another man came to assist her.” Officers later found the man near the site of the alleged assault but he was unconcious and was taken to Concord Hospital after being treated by paramedics. He was later released from hospital into the custody of police and was charged with Indecent Assault and Stalking/Intimidation.
