northbrooktower.com news the northbrook tower | April 18, 2019 | 19 District 28’s Shapiro named Apple Distinguished Educator Submitted by Northbrook School District 28 R o n i t Shapiro, District 28 elementary instructional technology coach, has been accepted into Shapiro an elite class of educators as a member of the Apple Distinguished Educators Class of 2019. In 1994, Apple created the ADE Program to recognize K-12 and higher education pioneers who are using Apple technology to transform teaching and learning in powerful ways. Celebrating 25 years, the program has grown into a worldwide community of more than 2,800 visionary and innovative leaders in education, helping other educators rethink what’s possible with iPad and Mac. Her work at District 28 has centered on supporting teachers as it implements its Learning First technology initiative, which this year included personal iPads for all kindergarten, third-grade and sixth-grade students. Apple refers to ADEs as “trusted advisors, passionate advocates, authentic authors and global ambassadors” for integrating technology into learning environments. Shapiro submitted a video and written application for the designation, reflecting on teacher practices as a third- and fourth-grade teacher as well as her role as an instructional technology coach working with elementary teachers. “I am inspired when I work with other passionate people, and the Apple Distinguished Educator community is a place full of innovative risk-takers.
