Nick Milano, assistant principal at Field School, dressed as Uncle Sam. Together, the three represented the United States. Next was the entertainment, which was so captivating that most stayed for all the acts. First came the Field Middle School choir, followed by students singing a song in Mongolian. Saranzul Batzul and Munkhundram Purevsuren performed an elegant, native Mongolian dance. The girls seemed to float across the stage as they danced. The Winkelman Bucket Drummers, directed by teacher Heather Bordley- Harvell, were a delight as they drummed through their performance. The Champion Martial Arts group gave a performance that kept everyone’s eyes on the stage while its members did many martial arts maneuvers. One of the youngest members broke blocks of wood with his hand, and older members broke them with their feet. But one that captured everyone’s attention was done by student Michael Glowacki. He twirled and threw two performance swords in the air as though they were children’s batons and he was a juggler. “We are not allowed to use real swords with sharp blades while we are performing,” he said. “It is too dangerous. The edges of my swords are blunt.” Kishen Behara, Shail Desai, Tanvi Natarajan and Kayla Patel later performed dances from various states in India. As attendees filtered out of the school, the most common remark heard throughout was, “We’ll be back for next year’s celebration.”
