Other things to consider are the dehydrator’s<br />

power. Look for ones that have at least 500<br />

watts of power, but 1,000 is better.<br />

Some models have a built-in timer that shuts<br />

off the machine once it’s done. This is a handy<br />

feature to have if you want to go out or leave the<br />

machine running overnight. It also means you<br />

won’t forget about your food in the machine<br />

and over dry it.<br />

The higher-end models – ones like the Excalibur<br />

– have adjustable thermostats that cater to<br />

different types of food. This is a great feature<br />

because different fruit and vegetables have<br />

varying water content levels and will dry at<br />

different rates.<br />

Dehydrators that have the fan on the top or<br />

side don’t have droplets falling on the heating<br />

elements. This is ideal as it means that if you’re<br />

drying different types of produce at the same<br />

the flavors don’t blend.<br />
