editor’s note
In this issue of
the magazine
we’ve
introduced a new
feature called
a Vox Pop. The
term “Vox Pop”
comes from the
Latin phrase
vox populi,
which means
“voice of the
people” and
a Vox Pop is
used to gauge
popular opinion in the form
of informal comments from the public.
So we took to the One Bite Vegan Facebook
group to find out what you all think about a
topic that’s quite controversial in the vegan
world today… lab grown meat; would you eat
it?
The results of the poll (see the story on page
98) weren’t overly surprising but some of the
comments were interesting as they gave an
insight into how little us vegans actually know
about the process involved in creating lab
cultured meat.
Many people commented that the thought of
eating animal flesh repulsed them but if lab
meat meant that less animals were harmed
for people who refused to give up meat-eating
then that was a good thing.
While the end goal for lab-cultured meat may
be to reduce the use of animals in the human
food chain, the initial process and testing phase
of this food technology is still very harmful for
animals. Top this off with the suspicions that labmeat
might not even be more environmentally
friendly in the long run and it’s fair to say that
this lab-cultured meat idea might not be all it’s
cracked up to be.
So if like us, you’re not on board with
consuming anything that’s been grown in a
petri dish, fear not! Once again this issue of the
magazine’s got a whole host of delicious vegan
recipes for you to choose from , including
items that would work great for grazing tables
at parties and two from the new ‘Rawsome
Superfoods’ cookbook by Emily Von Euw. Make
sure you check out the competition to win
yourself a copy too!
If you read the magazine via one of our apps
and you like what we’re doing, please help us
out by leaving a review as this really helps us to
get noticed. Also if you’ve got any suggestions
for the types of articles and recipes that we
have in the magazine, please don’t hesitate to
get in touch – we love to hear from you!
