Orland Fire received multiple 911 calls April 28 in response to the fire and explosion in the 16700 block of 93rd Avenue in Orland Hills, according to a press release issued the same day by Orland Fire. Crews reportedly arrived to find a single-story frame home with a fire in the front living room, as well as a 60-year-old woman, conscious but suffering from multiple burns, lying on the front lawn of the residence. She reportedly was transferred to Silver Cross Hospital and later Loyola Medicine’s Burn Center. dedication From Page 3 Among them was Orland Park resident and Granat family friend Ben Mitchel. “I’ve known Art [Jr.] since I was a little kid,” Mitchel said. “I call him Uncle Art. It’s a phenomenal dedication, and he most definitely deserves it.” The department also dedicated a new ambulance to Donald Piscitello, who served Orland Fire from 1994-2011. He died in 2016. “Don was one of the best paramedics I’ve ever worked with,” Schofield said during the ceremony. “He had tremendous compassion. Fire crews rescued two family dogs from the home, which were given oxygen masks and transported to PAWS for further evaluation, according to district spokesperson Ray Hanania. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The wall was dedicated to the two retired firefighters who made it possible: Dan Schloegel and Dan Smith. “We wanted every firefighter who ever worked full-time in Orland that’s retired to be honored,” Schofield said during the ceremony. “So, we got together and came up with a plan to honor every firefighter, chief, dispatcher — whoever worked here and has retired.” Embracing its history, Orland Fire is to continue the celebration of its anniversary with an open house on July 20. “We’re going to try to bring back volunteer firefighters that are still around,” Schofield said. The open house is to be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Orland Fire Protection District Training Academy, 10728 W. 163rd Place in Orland Park.
