Editor’s Note
World's many firsts
April is gone but left many historic firsts in different fields,
including the air cargo industry, with great impact on
humanity's future.
On April 10, the first image of the black hole was captured
using a network of eight telescopes around the world.
Located some 500 million trillion km from earth in a distant
galaxy, the black hole, scientists say measures about 3
million times the size of our planet.
In another world's first, Russia launched in April an
autonomous space cargo ship with two more unpiloted
resupply spacecraft scheduled later this year to travel to the
International Space Station out of the Baikonur
Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan via the Soyuz-2.1a carrier
rocket.
In industry first, Air France KLM Martinair Cargo and
WebCargo by Freightos launched real-time air cargo
eBooking with instant pricing and capacity that can save
shippers, airlines and forwarders tons of money and time.
In Europe, Athens International Airport became the first to
use face scan as boarding pass by having passengers merely
scanning their faces at check-in and at security points.
In this edition, we'll share with you how the upcoming
Expo 2020 Dubai is fueling growth in air freight and logistics
in the UAE with more than 190 countries participating in the
first world expo in the Middle East and North Africa spending
millions of dollars for their national pavilions. In an exclusive
interview, a German official shares insights how this mega
event is becoming the biggest global image platform for
countries and its economic implications.
We'll also bring you the story of Zhukovsky International
Airport Cargo which aims to become the new gateway in
Central Russia to spruce up businesses in the region.
Technology is fast changing the world and industries are
trying to catch up despite the many challenges.
It's an interesting time for many of us, including those who
simply watch on the sidelines.
