country that was under him, and called <strong>the</strong> people <strong>to</strong> Jerusalem <strong>to</strong> celebrate<br />
<strong>the</strong> feast <strong>of</strong> unleavened bread, for it had been intermitted a long time, on<br />
account <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> wickedness <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> forementioned kings. He also sent <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Israelites, and exhorted <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> leave <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong>ir present way <strong>of</strong> living, and<br />
return <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir ancient practices, and <strong>to</strong> worship God, for that he gave <strong>the</strong>m<br />
leave <strong>to</strong> come <strong>to</strong> Jerusalem, and <strong>to</strong> celebrate, all in one body, <strong>the</strong> feast <strong>of</strong><br />
unleavened bread; and this he said was by way <strong>of</strong> invitation only, and <strong>to</strong> be<br />
done <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir own good-will, and for <strong>the</strong>ir own advantage, and not out <strong>of</strong><br />
obedience <strong>to</strong> him, because it would make <strong>the</strong>m happy. But <strong>the</strong> Israelites,<br />
upon <strong>the</strong> coming <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ambassadors, and upon <strong>the</strong>ir laying before <strong>the</strong>m what<br />
<strong>the</strong>y had in charge from <strong>the</strong>ir own king, were so far from complying<br />
<strong>the</strong>rewith, that <strong>the</strong>y laughed <strong>the</strong> ambassadors <strong>to</strong> scorn, and mocked <strong>the</strong>m as<br />
fools: as also <strong>the</strong>y affronted <strong>the</strong> prophets, which gave <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> same<br />
exhortations, and fore<strong>to</strong>ld what <strong>the</strong>y would suffer if <strong>the</strong>y did not return <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
worship <strong>of</strong> God, insomuch that at length <strong>the</strong>y caught <strong>the</strong>m, and slew <strong>the</strong>m;<br />
nor did this degree <strong>of</strong> transgressing suffice <strong>the</strong>m, but <strong>the</strong>y had more wicked<br />
contrivances than what have been described: nor did <strong>the</strong>y leave <strong>of</strong>f, before<br />
God, as a punishment for <strong>the</strong>ir impiety, brought <strong>the</strong>m under <strong>the</strong>ir enemies:<br />
but <strong>of</strong> that more hereafter. However, many <strong>the</strong>re were <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tribe <strong>of</strong><br />
Manasseh, and <strong>of</strong> Zebulon, and <strong>of</strong> Issachar, who were obedient <strong>to</strong> what <strong>the</strong><br />
prophets exhorted <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> do, and returned <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> worship <strong>of</strong> God. Now all<br />
<strong>the</strong>se came running <strong>to</strong> Jerusalem, <strong>to</strong> Hezekiah, that <strong>the</strong>y might worship God<br />
[<strong>the</strong>re].<br />
3. When <strong>the</strong>se men were come, king Hezekiah went up in<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> temple,<br />
with <strong>the</strong> rulers and all <strong>the</strong> people, and <strong>of</strong>fered for himself seven bulls, and as<br />
many rams, with seven lambs, and as many kids <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> goats. The king also<br />
himself, and <strong>the</strong> rulers, laid <strong>the</strong>ir hands on <strong>the</strong> heads <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sacrifices, and<br />
permitted <strong>the</strong> priests <strong>to</strong> complete <strong>the</strong> sacred <strong>of</strong>fices about <strong>the</strong>m. So <strong>the</strong>y both<br />
slew <strong>the</strong> sacrifices, and burnt <strong>the</strong> burnt-<strong>of</strong>ferings, while <strong>the</strong> Levites s<strong>to</strong>od<br />
round about <strong>the</strong>m, with <strong>the</strong>ir musical instruments, and sang hymns <strong>to</strong> God,<br />
and played on <strong>the</strong>ir psalteries, as <strong>the</strong>y were instructed by David <strong>to</strong> do, and<br />
