Robotics team advances
to world championships
The Bosons robotics team from Eureka
High won the 2019 Missouri State Rockwell
Aerospace Innovate Award at Missouri
S&T, qualifying them for FIRST
Robotics World Championships last month.
Physics teacher Dustin Klenke coaches the
team along with teacher Cooper Rinehart.
“The criteria for this award are about
using innovative solutions in the engineering
challenges,” Klenke said. “Judges are
looking for outside-the-box-thinking.”
That’s exactly what the Bosons delivered.
The team uses syringes on the bottom of
their robot to allow it to be lowered easily.
“I think the judges liked the fact that it
was a real solution to an authentic problem,”
Klenke said.
Senior Jared Hallahan said, “We were
hoping to get an award because we had
such a unique robot. Our syringes create an
air cushion, and we got a lot of questions
about it – that’s a good thing.”
This is the second time in the last three
years that the Bosons have qualified for
world championships.
“I got to go my freshman year, so I’m
excited to go back,” senior Nathan Yeager
said.
Learning through
community service
In an outreach opportunity, seventh- and
eighth-grade students from Twin Oaks
Christian School served at Sunshine Ministries
in North City.

The ministry offers homeless shelter
and addiction recovery programs for men
and assistance to women and youth in St.
Louis’ inner city neighborhoods. While
some of the Twin Oaks students organized
merchandise for the boutique or moved
canned food from the storage facility down
the street and re-stocked the food pantry,
others played games with students at the
Sunshine Ministry Preschool.
“The kids were great this morning,” Sunshine
Ministries Director Carol Clarkson
said of the Twin Oaks students. “They got
a lot done and were really awesome working
with our preschoolers.”

The Fox Performing Arts Charitable
Foundation, The Muny, and the Fabulous
Fox Theatre recently announced the nominees
for the third St. Louis High School
Musical Theatre Awards to be held at 4
p.m. on Sunday, June 2 at the Fox Theatre.
The awards are designed to celebrate
outstanding achievement in high school
musical theatre. Participating schools’
musical productions are evaluated by a
