It was an atmosphere of gloom and
despondency for Mr and Mrs Aremu,
as they watched their five-year-old
daughter, Praise Aremu, lying on one
of the beds at the Orthopaedic Hospital,
Igbobi, in Fadeyi area of Lagos, with both
hands in Plaster of Paris, POP.
The smile on Praise’s face that usually
greeted visitors at their Ogijo abode, in
Shagamu area of Ogun State, has been
replaced with a visible expression of
excruciating pains, as she groaned
intermittently, in a bid to change her position
on the bed.
On sighting this reporter, she asked her
parents, “When will I return to school”, with
tears running down her cheeks.
Only time and mainly, money, will
determine that, as Crime Guard was informed
that the pupil of Tender Care Nursery and
Primary School, Sagamu, who usually
emerged the overall best in class, needed to
undergo three stages of surgeries which will
cost about N10 million.
Tragedy
Her father, Akeem Aremu, who spoke with
a tone mixed with sorrow and anger, told Crime
Guard at the hospital that, “we were jolted
from sleep on May 22, 2019, at about 11.15
p.m, by our daughter’s scream. To our greatest
shock, we saw blood everywhere on the floor,
with a very big strange iron that was emitting
smoke, pinning her hand deep into the floor.
On closer observation, we discovered that her
left hand had been severed with two fingers
cut off too. It was like a nightmare.
“To avoid further waste of time, we couldn’t
check exactly what the object was or where it
came from. I quickly put on my clothes and
drove to the Lagos State University Teaching
Hospital LUTH. But she was rejected because
the case was severe. We went to St. Nicholas
Medical Centre, from where we were referred
to the Orthopaedic hospital at about 12
midnight.

Findings
“I called my neighbours and members of
the landlord association to inform them of
the situation on ground, and asked them to go
round and check where the object came from.
“Next day,( May, 22) the landlord
association gathered to investigate the case
by going round to check several factories
located in that area and to confirm if there
was an explosion the previous night.
“They informed me that they found a
company called Phonix, where people buy iron

Murder of welder at Redeemer’s University:

This is certainly not the best of
time for the Zumuratu Mumuni
family, in Ede North Local
Government Area, of Osun state,
following the murder of their son,
Olaiya Ibrahim, last Sunday.
Late Ibrahim, a father of three, who
worked as a welder at the Redeemer’s
University, Ede, was allegedly beaten
to death by some members of the
Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC who
worked as private guards for the
university. He was accused of stealing
some iron rods belonging to the
University. But so far, Crime Guard
gathered that the iron rods he was
accused of stealing were yet to be
presented to the Police.
Report further had it that a
commercial bus driver who conveyed
the deceased to the scene was also
beaten to a state of coma, by the OPC
members allegedly led by one Waliki.

Directorate of Public Affairs, Mr.
Adetunji Adeleye claimed that Ibrahim
did not die within the university
premises and that the school’s security
vehicle was not used to convey him to
the hospital, it was discovered that the
vehicle in question, conveyed dying
Ibrahim to Oke-Iresi Police Division,
accompanied by some private guards
attached to the university.
In an interview with Crime Guard,
spokes person for the family, Mr
Ahmad Alaiya, said, “I received a call
on Sunday, as I was about leaving the
house, that my brother’s phone was
found at Orita Cottage and that I
should rush down to Oke-Iresi. When
I asked what happened to him, I was
told that he was hit by an okada. When
I got there, the caller said I should
come to the police station.
“On reaching the station, behold, I
saw my brother in the pool of his blood,
on the floor, with one of his legs
damaged. He had matchet cuts all over
his body and was badly beaten.
“When I looked round, I saw
Redeemer’s University vehicle with
some of the institution’s guards there
in front of the station. I was asked to
go and get new clothes for him to wear
to the hospital. I did as I was told but
he died before reaching the hospital.
“When we discovered he was dead,
I started shouting. But I was advised
to go and lodge a complaint at the
police station which I did. In my
statement, I said I saw him with
Redeemer’s University private guards
and that from all indications, he was
beaten to death.
“Policemen at Oke-Iresi Division said
