Online learning: which
subjects suit best?
At present, online assessment is
best suited for various disciplines where
objective type questions can be asked.
Where creativity is required, you may be
able to pass on the knowledge but it’s
assessment cannot be made uniform.
Uniform assessment means where all the
students can be assessed on the basis of a
uniform set of questions and uniform way
of measuring the performance.
For instance, you can teach Maths
online, make a student or group of
students practice questions and then
assess them basis a uniform test. But
the same can’t be replicated in a subject
which involves the different level of
creativity, say English.
Challenges…
Availability and usage of internet
is still an issue in many parts of our
country. Also, the next challenge here is
to assess how much the students are able
to understand the concepts and secondly
how do we assess them.
Besides, education institutions will
have to deal with the intellectual property
challenges in the future in certain areas
related to the processes or methodology
which are patented after researches.
There is a major challenge of protecting
content as it gets easily copied and is
available on various platforms online
and offline as well. Course content
remains more or less same for each
concept; the major differentiator will be
the methodology and the delivery to the
end users.
How online teaching and
learning affects graduate
employability?
India is progressing from every angle.
There is a huge focus on the digital
platform. More skilled resources are
getting generated and this also means,
competition is growing. Understanding
the dynamics of the evolving industries
and market disruption happening across
various sectors, the demand for acquiring
new skills is increasing in order to stay
employable.
Definitely online teaching and
learning are both adding value to the
employability. A good online course
can help students/professionals to gain
more skills/ upskilling/ reskilling in ever
changing industry dynamics.
