“That’s where his house used to be,” Isabella<br />

said. “It was torn down in 1812.”<br />

“C’mon, you can see <strong>the</strong> foundation and <strong>the</strong><br />

privy hole,” Hunter said.<br />

“<strong>The</strong> what?” Grant asked.<br />

Christina whispered, “You know, <strong>the</strong> old-timey<br />

bathrooms people had before indoor plumbing.”<br />

“Oh,” Grant said. “I guess I never thought <strong>of</strong><br />

Ben Franklin having to use <strong>the</strong> bathroom.”<br />

<strong>The</strong> three sat down on a foundation stone <strong>of</strong><br />

Franklin’s house. “I wonder what old Ben would think<br />

about our little mystery?” Christina wondered aloud.<br />

“Why don’t you ask him?” Hunter said.<br />

Christina looked up in surprise to see <strong>the</strong><br />

familiar, white-haired Franklin. He peered at <strong>the</strong>m<br />

through <strong>the</strong> little round glasses perched on <strong>the</strong> end<br />

<strong>of</strong> his nose.<br />

“Penny for your thoughts,” Franklin said, tossing<br />

a coin that Grant eagerly hopped up to catch.<br />

“Just wondering what you’d think if <strong>the</strong> <strong>Liberty</strong><br />

<strong>Bell</strong> went missing,” Christina said.<br />

“I’ve heard that old bell ring many times,”<br />

Franklin said. “Some people complained that it<br />

rang too much. <strong>The</strong>y even rang it when I went to<br />

England to address colonial grievances. It was <strong>the</strong><br />
