Patrick Rossetto just
finished his junior season
on the Lincoln-Way East
water polo team.
How would you say
the season went?
It was a big success at
the end for us. It wasn’t as
far as we would have liked
to go, obviously we had
that heartbreaker in the
[state] semifinals but going
that far when we haven’t
gone past the [state quarterfinals]
was definitely a
huge success for us.
When did you start
playing water polo?
I started when I was 9,
playing country club water
polo. I slowly moved
in to playing club, there’s
a local club called LAW
[Lincoln-Way Area Water
Polo) that I got into around
11. I have continued to
play since.
What have you
learned from coach
[Ryan] Lodes
throughout your
career?
I’d say just to always
have fun with it. Lodes
does a really great job at
making it feel like a family
environment. It makes
it easier showing up to a 5
a.m. practice when you enjoy
hanging out with your
coach. He’s a fun guy.
What’s been your
favorite memory while
playing water polo at
LW East?
Definitely last year and
this year’s sectionals. Seeing
and having a crowd to
play for, all of our friends
and family would show
up for sectionals and that
meant a lot to us.
What’s been the best
part of being a Lincoln-
Way East athlete?
Being with the guys,
you grow so much with
them it becomes more like
a brotherhood. It just happens
naturally from spending
so much time with
them, they’re always there
for you, even outside of
the pool. They are there for
you with school and helping
with other friendships.
I’m not sure it can be said
about other teams, but we
are all really close friends.
Who is your favorite
athlete?
Probably Tiger Woods.
Seeing him be so dominant
and then coming back
from injury and being in
the mix again. I admire
that drive and determination.
If you could meet
anyone from history,
who would it be?
Teddy Roosevelt, I
learned about him in Mr.
Olsen’s history class. He’s
just an interesting character,
obviously being president
and the many stories
of things, he did before becoming
president.
His accomplishments
definitely put other people’s
to shame. Meeting
him and asking about his
MEDIA
adventures in the wilderness
would be super interesting.
Any other favorite
sports besides water
polo?
I used to be a really big
volleyball player actually.
They’re during the same
season, so I had to make
the choice and I chose
water polo. I played a lot
of volleyball before high
school.
What’s your favorite
thing to do in your
downtime?
I like to read a lot. Usually
historical books or adventure
books like Harry
Potter or Percy Jackson.
I’ve spent a lot of time
reading.
Any goals for next
season?
I’d like to get back to
state and recompete there.
My big thing next year is
winning sectionals. We
have a four-year streak going
now and I don’t want
to lose that streak while
the team is under my leadership.
We’ll see what happens.
