Thanks Again, From June 10 Man charged after allegedly attacking woman on Old Plank Road Trail Nuria Mathog, Editor A New Lenox man was arrested after reportedly attacking a woman Sunday, July 9, on the Old Plank Road Trail, according to the Frankfort Police Department. Anthony M. Carbone, 18, of the 800 block of Spinnaker Drive in New Lenox, was charged with aggravated battery and taken to the Will County Jail. Frankfort Deputy Police Chief Kevin Keegan said the woman was walking eastbound on the trail near Elsner Road around 7 a.m. when she was struck from behind. The force knocked her to the ground, causing abrasions to her shins and knees, police said. The woman asked the man what he was doing, and he reportedly ran from the scene. The woman provided a description of the man to an officer at the scene, and another officer located an individual matching that description, later identified as Carbone, near Old Plank Road Trail and Wolf Road. The woman identified Carbone as her attacker, police said. Keegan said police learned during an investigation that the attack was sexually motivated, but the man became startled and fled from the scene after knocking the woman to the ground. Summit Hill D161 Committee recommends K-12 district study go forward T.J. Kremer III Contributing Editor A 3-0 vote June 5 by the committee of the Summit Hill D161 Board of Education to examine the feasibility of creating a new K-12 district resulted in an uproarious applause from residents of the district who packed the boardroom wall-to-wall. The vote means that the full board was expected to take up the issue at its Wednesday, June 12 regular meeting. Summit Hill D161 first began looking at the idea of purchasing the currently underused Lincoln-Way North High School building from Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 and splitting off from the district to start its own K-12 unit district. Committee members laid out the details of what the feasibility study would include, and all of its members agreed that it would be in the best interest of the district to start the process sooner rather than later because the study itself would be bear fruit to the district regardless if that study showed a move to expand to a K-12 district would be beneficial or not. The study, if approved by the full board as presented by the committee, would be conducted by District Leadership Solutions LLC. and would require the work to be completed in several phases. The first phase would include four parts, each with its own price tag attached to break down the costs for the entirety of the study. The first part would include a student enrollment study, and would examine issues surrounding facility usage, staffing, curriculum offerings, State aid and facility planning. This portion would expect to be completed by Sept. 30 of this year and would cost the district $9,250. The second part of phase one would examine the overall tax impact, and would assess issues of debt, provide a comparison of financial profiles for each district, estimate tax rates for each district, provide five-year financial projections and examine fund balances. This work would also be expected to be completed by Sept. 30 and would have a price tag of $10,000. The third part would examine the tax impact on providing a baseline high school experience to that of D210, including curriculum and extracurricular opportunities for students. This would be expected to be completed by Nov. 1 and cost $10,000 The final step in phase one would examine the final tax impact on D161, including the purchase of LW North. This would also be completed and present along with the third part and cost $2,000. Public comment, which lasted for nearly an hour, was overwhelmingly in favor of pursuing the study. One commenter called the district’s plan “visionary thinking,” while just one commenter said the district should “stay in your lane” and stick to its K-8. Karen Miner, a nonvoting member of the committee, said that “it would be financially irresponsible” if the district did not pursue the feasibility study, given the potential benefits of getting hard data on how the district’s demographics are trending. relay From Page 3 There are people out their that have survived this. I’m also here to promote the shelter. All the puppies are up for adoption.”
