Feature ARTICLE Feature - ARTICLE GREAT BRITISH BROODMARES ‘Annagroff’. Over the winter of 2018/<strong>2019</strong> William Funnell brought out yet another homebred superstar at CSI***** level. This was Billy Diamo, a son of Cevin Z, out of the homebred AES registered mare Annagroff. Annagroff’s sire was the International competitor Andiamo, who was famed for his scope and electric jumping technique. He passed on a lot of character and blood (thanks to his anglo arab motherline) making his offspring more suitable for professionals. His sire Animo was a top Olympic level competitor. William Funnell and Billy Birr at Eindhoven 2008 Annagroff’s dam Halla also produced her full siblings Billy Birr (by Animo) who competed at the World Equestrian Games in 2010, and Billy Burgundy (by Animo) who competed at 1.40m level. The damsire Burggraff was Holstein bred but became the best Dutch representative of his immortal sire Landgraf, and was known as a stallion who passed on power and size. Billy Diamo is not the only talented jumper that Annagroff has produced: Sire Andiamo Billy Tudor 2002 - Billy Graff – by Vechta - over £1300 prize money, jumping 1.15 – 1.20m opens with an amateur rider 2006 – Billy Anna – by La Poco - over £6500 winnings - jumping 1.20 – 1.30m opens with an amateur rider 2007 – Billy Halla – by Billy Congo – won Big Star qualifier and 5 and 6 yo age classes. 2009 - Billy Graffiti – by Billy Congo - now jumping in the USA as a hunter, jumped double clears Foxhunter and Newcomers 2010 – Billy Diamo – by Cevin Z – International show jumper, placed Olympia 2018. Winnings of over £22,000 to date With Billy Diamo making an impact at 5 star level and the young stallion Billy Tudor already winning internationally, Annagroff has already made a name for herself as a serious producer. The Billy Stud have recognised this and have a number of embryo transfer youngsters waiting in the wings, so I expect Annagroff will be making even more of an impact on <strong>British</strong> show jumping in the next few years.
